Very stout engine. For those that don't have the time to read, the bump in the dyno isn't due to VVT like I initially thought, it's due to the exhaust valves opening according to Edmunds. http://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/track-tests/2014-chevrolet-corvette-stingray-z51-dyno-test.html

It's a fair comparison at the price point.

Comparing the C7 to a GT would be dumb considering the $20k price spread.

Viper GTS

fair-ish sure. still funny to me.

z51 vette is 51K with no other frills

the shelby with the svt pack is 60k

they base at 49k for a vette and 54k for a shelby

but of course the z06 is 76K and 110 for the ZR1

definately more fair price wise at 9k(z51 v gt500 svt pack) vs 16k

no real prices announced for the 2014+ vette that I have seen, I imagine they might tick up a G or so, so it should be a bit more similar

barely :p

Base price was announced as $51,995 + $2800 for the Z51 package (no brainer).

I understand the comparison based on price, (not sure why above poster is obsessed with optioned gt500 since power is the same for all of them), but they are not the same style car at all. From that standpoint, comparing them is kind of silly.

I'm guessing he means the track pack based on the price, but the track pack is not a performance enhancement anyway. It adds weight to increase endurance. It's not necessary or beneficial for mere mortal track days.

no the SVT pack adds comparables ie magnetic ride control, which is the main piece of the Z51 upgrade IMO

I hadnt seen the updated pricing, but I wasnt really looking :)

i also agree that they are different style car

The magnetic ride control is not part of the Z51 package. It's $1900 on its own.

GT500 has no analog to GM's suspension. SVT performance pack (which brings the cost up to $58k, not $60k) performancewise, adds different rear springs, a torsen diff, and 2 mode dampers, but those aren't comparable at all. The GM is far superior suspensionwise. The track pack, which makes it around $60k adds no performance over the PP.

The corvette is what you would expect. It's a "balanced" car. The GT500 is a $30k engine, and then money left over was put to other things. I love my GT500, and it's very capable, but I don't pretend that the rest of the car is on par with he engine.

Love the flat torque curve, but I was expecting a little more. Those numbers are just a tad better than my tuned LS2 from '05

The new corvette is def an awesome car, but i am already looking foward to seeing where the next gen V8 mustang stacks up.

If the rumor mill is anywhere near true, with more power and less weight the new mustang will prob run with a base vette at the dragstrip for 20K less. Cheap thrills for sure.

and yet it will get trashed at autocross courses and tracks everywhere.

pony car != sportscar.

two different vehicles altogether.

maybe but I'd just use it to tool around on public roads and I suspect most people do. High handling limits are even harder to exploit on public roads than big engines. In it's (small) favor, the mustang is getting IRS too.

If you have enough $$ to buy these cars in the first place, then you have enough money to make them track worthy. The next generation is going to have the solid axle gone, and replaced with IRS. There'll be a stronger v8 with better suspension and a new frame. Why is it going to get torn to shreds? Please elaborate.

because the GT500 often has trouble hanging with the Camaro ZL1, let alone a properly outfitted corvette? the stingray pulls 1.03g on the skidpad off the showroom floor?

1.08g's actually. Crazy performance from the base Vette.

they dont even have Z51 on the build a car page on gms site that I could fine, just MRC, which was a bit odd

59010 if you want to be super exact, so i was closer :p

*prices may apparantly vary by zip code)

its still going to have a large weight penalty to worry about as well

but beyond that

great, so after you spend 1k on tires, and 2k on new dampers, its closer? there goes a hunk of the price difference

and then there is the fact that you can then upgrade the vette more and be further ahead again, I mean c'mon, if you can afford the car you can afford the mods

if you are going for track toy and dont mind spending mod money.......a base vette is the way to go.

The base C7 looks impressive, but I'd really like to see what the Z06 will look like. Hopefully it comes in at over 600hp.
