Corvette Grandsport coming back for 2010

Here's the main reason I see for this car. The LS7 has relatively thin walls and is not good to be built with any kind of boost, so those going big power (700hp+) can't really start with a Z06. The LS3 is a monster with a few PSI behind it, so a lot of guys were buying Z51 cars, building them with twin turbos or superchargers, and then putting the Z06 widebody on them so they could fit larger tires with more traction. The Gransport seems like a good way to sell to those planning on going big power the car they actually want while saving the buyer money. I just wish I knew if it had the aluminum frame or the steel one.

Sounds like a good deal to me.

BTW: Jules, you have no room to speak. Your favorite car in the world has the most shitty and uncomfortable interior you can get, all in the name of price vs. performance. The Corvette does the exact same thing but with power instead of (extremely) light weight.

You say it is shitty but it's actually just extremely practical. The Elise/Exige is about light weight so everything about the interior of that car is minimalist and about being as light weight as possible. I rather like it personally. Oh, and from a driving perspective it doesn't get any more right than the driving position in an Elise. 😀😛

Hahaha a $65K Exige will get absolutely destroyed by a Base model $50k Corvette. You say the interior is simple and practical. Practical = shitty. Let's not forget, the Vette with more than 3 times the displacement has better fuel economy than the Lotus Exige.

I don't know what you're smoking but a base Corvette will not destroy an Exige S in performance or fuel economy.

Exige S
0-60mph: 4.0 seconds
Fuel economy: 23 city/29 highway

Corvette
0-60mph: 4.3 seconds
Fuel economy: 16 city/26 highway

You need to step up to the over $100k ZO6 to beat the Exige S.

I can't think of anywhere I'd rather spend more time.

Not here that's for sure. 😛

so its simply a base C6 with Z06 suspension and wide body, and you get the benefit of a removable Targa top or Vert.

Rims scream 370z to me, still like the split spokes better.

EDIT: Launch control is pretty nice. It's a shame that the company that makes this car is in such bad shape

I'm normally not one to quote lap times but since you're the "OMG Exige on a track > *" king...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N...eife_fastest_lap_times

7:59 Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z51
8:25 Lotus Exige S

That Corvette is the base model + the Z51 package. That's a $45,000 car. The Z06 is faster, and does not cost $100K as you've claimed. $100K is nearly ZR1 territory, and I think we all know what the ZR1 is capable of.

Viper GTS

^^^^ HAHAHAHA. that 0 -60mph time is fast, almost ungodly so for that car, but it's SLOW in comparison to a stock LS3 vette. The vette will come right past that car wayyyyyyy before a 1/4 mile and do just fine with it at a track too.

You're talking bottom 12's at 115mph + to 13.0 at 106mph maybe for the exige s.

That's all for your base 47k 6 speed vette.

Technically, the Z06 would compare more directly to the Exige S anyway from a pricing standpoint, which would just obliterate that car further.... making it look like a tiny little joke, almost like a kiddy clown car.

 I never said the Exige was faster than a Vette top speed. Jeffy claimed that a base Corvette would destroy an Exige but it's simply not true. The Exige actually will beat a Vette in some situations.

You're right though, I mistook the ZO6 for the ZR1. Can't keep those GM monikers straight.

I'm not really sure where you're getting ur numbers but Lotus' own site claims it's fuel economy at 20/26. Also, Car and Driver got the Vette at 4 seconds flat. And WTH is this nonsense about needed a $100K z06 to compete with an Exige S? z06 starts at $75k.

Edmunds.com and I already said I got the Corvette monikers wrong.

Oh and FTR I didn't bring up the Lotus in this thread. As usual, I point out something I don't like about the Vette and a bunch of GM homers start bagging on my favorite car. Why they even care what I think is beyond me quite frankly.

Just because an Exige can beat a Vette in some situations (0-60 mainly), doesn't make his comments invalid. 26 seconds on the ring is pretty would meet most people's definition of being destroyed.

So the ZR1 wasn't good enough (or expensive enough), let's bring back the Grand Sport.

The GS (nearly half the price of ZR1) is the replacement for the Z51 package. To be fair, no where else can you get a dry sump oil system, that much horsepower, and such track prowess for that kind of money.

You forgot the crappy seats and interior. Where else can you get such a shitty interior for so much money?

Elise? Exige?

heheheh

que excuse #3219: Nurburgring has more straightaway which is favorable to high horsepower.

Cue: who cares?

Yay, a professional driver racing my car around a 12 mile track in Germany beat a professional driver racing around the same track in your car.

its come a long way from the C5 days, I actually like the c6 interior way better compared to any late model c3/c4/c5.
