Corvette Grandsport coming back for 2010

Just one question,
All-in-all, these improvements should net an enthusiastic 2010 Grand Sport driver with a 0.2-second improvement over the existing Z51-model.
0.2 seconds faster in what? 0-60? 1/4mile Nurburgring?

From the press release in the article:

The equipment enables cornering capability of 1.0 g, as well as a 0.2-second improvement in 0-60 acceleration vs. standard LS3-powered models.

Grand Sport. It's a great marketing gimmick because there were a couple Corvettes that were named this in the past.

Enough said.

the gs cars have always had different suspension tuning, different wheels/rubber, and more horses. this one has a wider front fenders, different cooling vents... they do have real perfromance differences.

You realize the Z51 package and the ZR1 Corvette are 2 completely different animals right? The new GS will be below the ZR1 and Z06 I believe.

So the ZR1 wasn't good enough (or expensive enough), let's bring back the Grand Sport.

The GS (nearly half the price of ZR1) is the replacement for the Z51 package. To be fair, no where else can you get a dry sump oil system, that much horsepower, and such track prowess for that kind of money.

You forgot the crappy seats and interior. Where else can you get such a shitty interior for so much money?

The interior in a Corvette was/is ugly.

Someone want to explain to me the major practical differences between this and a regular 2009 vette?

It more faster.

Faster than a ZR-1? And 0.2 seconds faster in what? Doesn't sound practical to me at all.

It's for people who want the widebody and aggressive look of the Z06 without getting a Z06. You get the Z06 front, fenders, spoiler, wider tires, bigger brakes. dry sump oil system, differential cooler, front brake ducts. Basically Z06 without the LS7 engine. People were paying $10-15k to do aftermarket Z06 like widebody conversions on their own or through a shop and now they can get the same thing from the factory cheaper.

GM was supposed to upgrade the interior for 2010 but that got axed. Too many unused prior inventory and extra cost.
