AutoBlog has a good article up about the new C6.R GT2 cars, including some good background for those (like me) who aren't as knowledgeable about the series & cars. Also has a handful of AWESOME images that can be had in pretty high res - perfect for drool-inducing desktop wallpapers.

Apparently these new cars are based more on the ZR1 than the GT1 cars, due to the tighter regs in the GT2 class that require the cars to be closer to the factory model than GT1 did. Very cool

This piece caught my eye:

For 2010, some new engine rules in GT2 will mean an all-new engine for the Corvette. Come Sebring next March, the GT2 Vettes will be running a new 5.5-liter V8 based on the next-generation version of the GM small block. Unlike the GT1 engines, the engines for the new cars will be assembled on the line at the GM Performance Powertrain Center alongside the production LS9 and LSA used in the ZR1 and Cadillac CTS-V.
Schweet. Testing the GenV small block, very cool. Direct injection will be a given. I don't know about these class specs, but I wonder if we'll start seeing small twin-turbo setups with flipped cylinder heads & the turbos stuffed in the intake valley, like on the BMW TT V8's and GM's now-canceled turbo-diesel V8? With a setup like that, you could conservatively see 500HP out of a 5.5L V8 and plenty of room to go up or down for different models, not to mention tuning...

Odd size ... comes out to around 335 cubic inches ... still, if properly designed, it should provide nice power, be a bit lighter and get better gas economy ... time will tell how well it is.

I wouldn't say the new motor would necessarily be 5.5L, but if it's a new design then it should hopefully have some nice advances. Long live the pushrod!!

Amen. As much as I love the "high-tech" motors from other companies...there is something just plain amazing with what Chevy has managed with these engines...
