So now that it's football season again, I'm seeing TV ads.

Siri vs. Cortana – Mirror Mirror (Commercial): http://youtu.be/nRV76VbTq-8
Siri vs. Cortana - Happy Anniversary (Commercial): http://youtu.be/w0pjD4qpIpg

The first thing I noticed is that she doesn't really sound like the game Cortana...

The second thing I noticed is that the functionality seems pretty slick. Doubt it will overcome lock-in/network effects and win many converts though.

Microsoft is trying. I like Windows devices, but the apps just lack compared to the competition. That is still the biggest issue with Windows devices.

There's a lot I like about the new windows phones, but there are just a couple of apps that I want to show up before I can make the jump (primarily Runkeeper).

This, and the fact that basic features such as repeat message notifications are still missing, and it doesn't offer any game changing features that are worth switching platforms for... Microsoft offers too little and was late to the game. Android has evolved so fast from the beginning, and iOS is fairly solid with a big feature set/nice ecosystem.

On the other hand, that horrible Surface branding is making the Fox studio show unwatchable.

I have a pathetic short term memory so Cortana is amazing for me.

Cortana - Call **** when I get to work.
Cortana - Buy hamburger buns when i stop at the store
Cortana - I need to be home at 6pm tomorrow. (It actually tells e when to leave work based on traffic)

I know other OS's do some of the same but I've been very impressed with Cortana so far.

Ya to do that with android you have to open your calendar app and set a notification or something I think. I've never actually done it. I am not sure if svoice on samsung devices is any different, I never used that either.

Google now seemed like it had great potential but i couldn't ever get it to work without resaying things over and over. Could've been the S5 I was using, it always did suck for voice quality.
Song identifier on Cortana is far better too.

Cortana is voiced by Jen Taylor (same voice actress from the game). Granted they are still working on more recordings all the time (versus synthesized ones), but I would guess they would have her do the commercials.

Yeah, the location based reminders and the contact reminders are great as well.

Remind me to buy <blank>, the next time I'm at Costco.
Remind me to ask my mom about <blank> the next time I talk to her.
Remind me to bring out the trash when I get home.

Supposedly, the newer phones will support the Google Now style of always listening so you only have to say "hey cortana" to get start her. It's also going to get interesting with Cortana being integrated into Windows 9 when it comes out next spring and probably the Xbox One around then as well.

I can't wait to see the integration. I hope MS don't screw it up.

Hey Cortana "Get file XYZ from Home PC"
Hey Cortana " sync my pictures when I get home"
Hey Cortana " copy file XYZ to all my desktops" I use PC, Laptop, Tablet, HTPC and phone almost daily.
