you should look at higher speeds if you are interested in overclocking(I am assuming AMD)

Yep, if you want better cooling they make XMS RAM with that also, better heatsinks I believe.

Will overclocking give me a noticable diffrence with gaming with an opteron @ 2.6GHZ and a 7900GT?

If you really want to look at OCing, get a DDR500 kit.

OCing is never guaranteed to go overly far with DDR400.

Really though, spending $$$ on expensive RAM is simply not worth it.

You'd be smarter to just buy a good value RAM kit for less, use a divider for OCing, & use the money saved to jump up from your 7900GT to an X1900XT.

You can get 2x1GB Patriot @ 2-3-2-5 on newegg for like $130 right now (after rebate). I got this RAM a couple of weeks ago, and I hit 220mhz with those timings NP, and with the 5:4 divider and looser timings I hit 275mhz =2.75ghz on my 3700+.

And I do notice a difference, but not a huge one. It's only in FEAR that it boosts my frame rates significantly, in the average range of 10fps.

Is that 2.6ghz opteron you mention an overclocked opteron?

And my reading experience is the OCZ Plat DDR500 or the mushkin REDLINE DDR500 are the best available for OC'ing. Twice the price of the Patriot though, and its supposed to get up to ddr500 on some setups.

yeah, I'm planning to overclock it when it's built.

Well then for the price point I'd really suggest the Patriot 2x1gb 2-3-2-5. Unless you're loaded at the moment, then mushkin redline ddr500.

Don't buy expensive ram...use the money on a strong video card and moderately overclock if u must. Ram coolers are a gimmick as well, good air flow is what really matters.
