Corsair xms 1600mhz 3gb - 3 sticks installed, only 2gb showing in BIOS, only noticed it recently.

Yes, they are seated in the slots properly. Any suggestions what the problem is?

XMP profile? VDimm? VTT? Running 1600mhz is an overclock of your CPU's Uncore, which all i7 CPUs should do just fine with the right settings.

XMP Profile = "Profile1" - options are Profile1 and Disabled.
VDimm = 1.65v
QPI/VTT = 1.2v

Worth mentioning that last time I played around with the BIOS settings I noticed my RAM timings were lower than they are as default out of the box (9-9-9-24) so I jacked them up to what they should be. I didn't notice at the time whether or not I had 2 gigs showing instead of 3.

Any suggestions for new settings?

I've got the option Performance enhanced set to Standard (choices are Standard, Turbo, and Extreme). It says if I set it to Standard it improves stability. Also Load-Line Calibration is Disabled.

Vcore = 1.25v

XMP should be setting your VTT to +150mv.

Reset your memory configuration to 1066 (or just reset your BIOS to default settings completely) to see if 3gb is recognized correctly at lower speed. It should. If it doesn't, likely a problem with your board's memory slot. Find out if it is a problem with the memory or the slot by trying out each individual stick in DIMM 1.

You should also be using DIMMs 1, 3, & 5 (usually, as they are called).

If everything checks out, set your XMP Profile, VDimm to 1.65V, VTT to 1.35V.

OK I will load "fail-safe defaults" and report back. My sticks are already in 1, 3 and 5 as directed in the mobo manual.

Any reason for VTT to 1.35v? What is it anyway? I'm new at this game!

OK I reset to fail safe defaults, saved and exited, it restarted itself. Still saying 2048M in Total Memory in Standard CMOS Features.

News:
Now 1066mhz
DDR voltage = 1.5v
"QPI/VTT" = 1.2v
XMP set to Disabled
System Memory Multiplier (SPD) set to Auto
DRAM timing selectable set to Auto

Edit:

Also it has changed the timings to 8-8-8-20.

Take out your sticks and try each one individually in DIMM 1.

What exactly am I looking for? Surely the system won't boot/POST with trip channel sticks with only one inserted?

Of course it will. The board should work fine with any number of sticks.

That means your memory is good but one of your board slots is probably bad. Read your manual and see which DIMM slots you should be using for 2 stick and try to post with 2.

If you look at my other thread about my hard drive I think it could all be related. I've had a couple of power cuts or times when the electricity has flickered on and off, that's happened a couple of times when my computer was on and also when it was in standby. Ever since I started putting it in standby and that was happening everything went real bad, that's when these POSTing troubles started.

I had surge protection but the protection broke on that after the power flickering happened one time.

Update BIOS if you haven't already.

Chances are though, your board is faulty.

It's pretty ridiculous how widespread this issue is though on X58...i swear i see it posted like every few days on various forums.
