Corsair VX550 550W PSU - $59.99 AR FS

Tempting. Very tempting. Was going to order one of those $40 (around $47 shipped) TruePower Trio 430W from Frys.com, but may get this instead. Or, maybe get both? 😕 One of these will end up in my main rig to replace the EarthWatts 500W. Though the EarthWatts is quiet for having an 80mm fan, I feel that I can do better. Also, once it is no longer in my main rig, I'm gonna... take it apart! I plan to shoehorn it into a SFF case where an SFX sized PSU currently resides.

... nevermind on that TP Trio... even though page still says "add to cart for special price" the special is dead... back to $99.99.

Hellooooo Corsair!

Go and get it Zap. You know you want to. 😛 I just bought that Antec Solo case yesterday for 20.00 AR. from Fry's. I now have 6 or 7 empty cases waiting to become computers. I said I was getting like you and your power supplies. I might throw that TruPower 430W I got for 10.00 AR during BF in the Solo.

Already did, right after previous post. 🙁

Well, at least this one is for my actual machine, not just "because it's cheap" or "for a spare." I don't have a Fry's B&M near me, which is good because I can order from Outpost.com with no tax, but alas no Solo either. Well, yesterday I did receive my $50 rebate from my previous Solo purchase from Outpost which ended up being $30 AR FS. I still have a spare (used but like new) Solo in the garage.

The free shipping is 7-9 business day budget, and $9 extra for 3-5 Business day. They ship in 1-2 business days.

Still abit cheaper then newegg. Hmm choices.

The free shipping is always a big YMMV. When I got the HX520 from Buy.com, it arrived the next day (FedEx Home, Saturday delivery). Other things I've gotten from there with the free ship option, it's taken several days to ship out and around a week to arrive (USPS parcel post).
IOW, if you need it this week, NewEgg would be more of a sure bet, but Buy.com might come through.

I also have had GREAT luck with Buy.com's free shipping. Their depot is only a drive away, so it works out to next day delivery for me. Never foget the first time i bought a 19" crt monitor from them back in the 90s and it showed up the next day.

For those of you on the East Coast, Buy.com has a big depot in Doylestown, PA. I ordered a 520HX last Sat., and it got here yesterday (tues). Yeah, $94...whatever.

If someone needs something quick, they shouldn't be shopping the Hot Deals forum. 😛 I have only once ever paid for a more expedited shipping than the cheapest/free (wife found out she was leaving for business trip 3 days before the fact, and we needed a notebook computer STAT!).

Yep, the PA depot is the one I normally get one-day shipping from. Computer parts/software are often shipped from there for me.

This is probably the best deal on corsair PSU I've seen recently. Although, I think I remember VX 550 isn't made by seasonic. But that's minor.

CWT. Should be similar quality, but fan controller ramps up a bit quicker so as quiet under low loads but gets noisier quicker.

I have had mixed results with free shipping. I ordered a notebook cooler on Feb. 2nd and it just arrived today, the 20th. I ordered the VX550 on the 19th and it shipped the 19th, due to arrive the 21st!

similar quality.

the HX520 is gonna be a little quieter, but not much.

depends if you like modular cables or not.

I like the modular cables on my 520HX, but I don't know if they're worth an additional $50. I don't think, though, w/my particular case (P180B), i'd want non-modular...wouldn't like that big bundle of wires down there.

For the additional $30 or $40, the HX offers not only the modular cables (and their sweet storage pouch) but it is also manufactured by Seasonic (as prev. noted). IMHO, well worth the extra $'s.

>$40 extra for the HX is probably a bit more than I'd pay for it. I got mine during that sale plus rebate promo almost a year ago, where I think it was around ~$80 after rebate, so that price was quite acceptable. I with Tullphan here, as far as finding the modular-ness very handy for my particular case. For a secondary rig, I'd probably get the VX450/VX550 though, since they're noticeably better bang for the buck.

Can someone please help me out here......

It's been ages since I built a PC (my last one was a xp2800 system).

I'm trying to install this PS in an E4500 system that I bought. But the motherboard has a 4 pin plug next to the CPU that I don't seem to have a connector for on this PS.

Am I missing something?

EDIT: Whoops. I'm an idiot and WAS missing something. Namely that you can detach four of the pins from the 8 pin connector.
