Corsair Voyager 8GB speeds

Does anyone have this stick, USB2 version?
Reviews were generally positive, so I got it and... I didn't expect miracles for that price, but seriously, 4MB/s write speed when copying larger files, that just cannot be right.

Anyone has similar experience maybe?

Heh. Weird. I bought it as a replacement for my aging Kingston Datatraveller (or something), which was easily doing around ~10MB/s. lol.

There is an old test from 2009 testfreaks that tested the Voyager 16GB. That drive only managed 6.47MB write speeds in that test (350mb file). So it looks like that drive is pretty slow for writes.

I've done alot of research into write speeds of USB drives (mostly USB 3 drives). The clear hands down winner these days is the Mushkin Ventura Pro. I regularly get 70 MB/sec on those drives. and the cost is no more than other drives, about .90 to $1/GB.

Eh, 32GB is way above my needs, and the price is a bit too high.
I am looking at 8GB sticks (maybe 16GB if nothing fast enough is available there).

A budget 16 GB USB 3.0 drive like the Kingston Datatraveler R3.0 seems quite widely available and is rated 70/30 MBs. It's write speed usually tests in the mid 30 MBs.

I don't think there are that many options for fast USB 3.0 8GB drives. The Patriot Supersonic Boost XT 8GB USB 3.0 is rated 90/30.

I like the NEXUS 16GB Throw-A-Way Units that sell in a BOWL like Jelly Beans in a Candy Store from the Source (Old Radio Shack for about $10). They are NOT USB3 fast but would say a steady USB2 Read/Write. They are small (about the size of a 50 cent piece) , coated in various colours of removable heavy rubber - very rugged durable and dependable - I've got dozens of them - Perfect for keeping all kinds of Data (MP3`s, Movies. Apps... etc) or say DOS FAT32 Compressed Ghost Images of your OS - Make them DOS FAT32 or EFI UFI Bootable (Whatever) for Window Installations with your App and Program SetUps = Perfect Installation and Storage THUMBS - Wish they made them BIGGER Volumes but then they may be susceptible to damage.

The fastest Thumb I've encountered for DATA Transfer is the Alu-Cased ADATA AS102-32G-RGY Pro 32GB USB3.0 100MB/S Read 50MB/S Write at about 18 to $22; however, they are prone to damage: BUT, they are guaranteed for LIFE. I have RMA`d several of them. Just make sure you remove all data off them between uses because if you drop one, it can quit.

You can throw a NEXUS against a cement wall all day long and it will never die - Still got the 1st one I bought (Can`t remember which one it is) - At $10 for 16GB WTF - BUT - If it`s speed you want, look at the ADATA, great Warranty but not dependable - Just how much Tape and Magic Markers can we use to Defrag. I've wasted most my life saving TB's of outdated Data; but, that's what makes us and what is it?
