Corsair Value Ram...

OK, well I'm going to be overclocking a 3000+ venice with an Epox 9NPA ultra motherboard to around 2.6 ghz.

Will Corsair Value Select RAM run with mem dividers well?
What do I need to tweak?

Thanks

All ram will run well with memory dividers as long as it works on an A64, since ALL ram runs on a divider on A64s. All you need to do to use a higher memory divider is to lower your DRAM clock frequency or DRAM speed or whatever your bios calls it from the Original 200MHz (DDR400).

I've come across mention of people having problems with the Corsair Value Select on the DFI board. Is this stuff of low quality or is it just really finicky?

I think it's a combination of mediocre quality with very inflexible memory settings on the DFI (remember that you can tweak everything, though, so I'd guess if someone actually cared enough he could get it to work).

very, very, very finicky

I've spent the last week sorting out my Corsair VS1GBKIT400 cas2.5, and that's just at ~195-230mhz. the next week (I assume) will be spent trying for 2.5,4,2,5@<195mhz and 3,3,3,8 or 3,4,4,10 at >230mhz.

right now mine runs stable @ 213mhz 2.5,3,3,5 with all timings cinched up for lower latency or at 229.5mhz 2,5,3,3,6 by loosening some things up.

seems it is best to stick between 2.70v-2.80v, doesn't respond well at 2.5,3,3,x with higher/lower voltages, just increases errors

I'm in the process of writing a guide for Corsair VS / DFI LP UT NF4 users to post on DFI Street, as it seems like lots of people are having issues with this combination.

just a FWIW, using certain dividers on the DFI LP NF4 boards requires serious tinkering sometimes just simply to boot Windows, but they all work just fine once you find the magic settings.

also FWIW, I have never had a problem using ANY divider on my previous NF4 boards (VNF4 Ultra and K8N Neo4-F), only on the DFI. interestingly, once you get timings straightened out on the DFI, max RAM overclock is higher than the other two boards by ~5mhz, and with tighter timings, latency is hugely improved.

read this thread

i put up three different sets of timings, first one should be good to go at stock speeds

Thanks for the replys guys!! Appreciate it

In order to run my RAM correctly with an OC of 2.7 Ghz (9 x 300 FSB), which seems to be the best choice. i'm going to need a 3:2 FSB:RAM divider (DDR266). This will put my RAM frequency at 192.85 mhz from 200 mhz.

What i'm still confused about is...

Will my RAM run at 192.85 mhz? (stock of 200)
What are timings? What do I need to do with them, if anything?
What is the x-x-x-x format?

Sorry if i'm acting like a noob (which I am), but can anyone point me in the right direction on understanding these things? Especially the x-x-x-x

Thanks

Sparka, the Corsair Value RAM can be overclocked, but not out of the box. when I first got my 2X1Gb Value Selects, I couldn't go above 205MHz. But after burning in the RAM using Prime95 at 200MHz for a few days, I find that I can go to about 234MHz at higher timings.

You can even burn in at below 200MHz, as long as you do it a few days. You don't even have to increase the voltage of the RAM.

My SPD timings for the RAM are 3-3-3-8, but I changed it to 2.5-3-3-7 for the burn in. Now I'm doing 217MHz at 3-3-3-8 at stock voltage.
