Corsair SLI/ EPP DDR2 memory questions...

I need some help deciding which corsair memory modules to purchase.

I?m deciding between the TWIN2X2048-8500C5 and the TWIN2X2048-6400C4.

I understand that both are SLI certified and have EPP.

My questions have to do with using them at 1066 MHZ on an nvidia based Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard.

1. Would both of these memories be able to work at 1066 mhz on this motherboard? Or only the 8500C5 ones?

2. Would relaxing the timings on the 6400C4 memory to 5-5-5-15 allow it to work at 1066 mhz?

3. Does the 8500C5 run at 4-4-4-12 at 800mhz?

4. The price difference between these is huge: the 6400C4 is $270, the 8500C5 is $450. If only the 8500C5 can reach 1066 MHZ is it worth the extra money?

I haven't been able to find the answers to these questions ( i know these just came out, but any help would be appreciated)

I can answer a few of your questions.

1. no. There is no way in hell PC6400 ram would run at PC8500 speeds.

2. No way.

3. It might, but highly unlikely. I think it's just designed to run at 1066MHz.

4. The only one I can't answer.

@-5-5-5-15 with 2.3v they might hit 1000 but probably 980mhz.

I reaaserched and and read areviws on DDR2 for a whole year before I bought mine.....

You are very wrong with with that statement m8
I can tell you of Pc 4200, 4300,5300,5400 & 6400 that will easily hit 1066nhz.

I have a bunch of gift certificates that would save me $200 on either memory. So i don't mind spending the extra for the better memory....

Unless i could just overclock the 6400C4 memory to 1066 by relaxing the timings to the same as the 8500C5 has (5-5-5-15)

One more question. I'm now looking for the cpu as well.

I'm thinking about a 3800x2 or 4000x2. They're close enough in price that the cost doesnt' matter. I just want the better overclocker. Are they basically same except the 4000x2 has twice the cache?

4000x2 and the 270$ ram is what im getting but hey if you wanna spend all that money on ram thats your perogative.

Would it be better to wait a few weeks to get the lower power version of the 4000x2? I figure that if it uses lower power it could overclock better...

Idk man I would just buy the reg x2 4000+ and overclock it most at xs are hitting 3ghz. All depends on what you want to do the low power is nice bu thardly worht the wait. I would go for the foxconn board for you rnew rig though The asus has problems ocing as of now.

Would getting a lower powerd one give a better chance of a better overclock?

And.. Where did you see that the Asus m2 boards are not overclocking well?

If you got the money, I don't see why not. I know I wanna get my hands on those RAM when Conroe comes out in a month or two.

here is an review i just found of the asus m2n32 deluxe. They like it and they had a good overclocking experience. The only problem they had was finding memory that works with it, but they didn't use the memory we've been discussing.

Im not gonna sit on a pentium 2 all summer just to get a faster cpu. If i had a good pc like you now it wouldnt be a problem.

If you really can't wait 2 months, just get an AM2 rig. S939 isn't much cheaper, and there will be no more CPUs for S939. DDR2 is also cheaper than DDR.
