I just recieved 2 512mb sticks of Value select ram from Newegg.
VS512SDS333 Pc2700.
I put the ram in my laptop Gateway M505X and I boot into windows and
run cpuz version 1.24.
The program says I have pc2100 ddr part# VS512SDS266
The sticker on the ram part# VS512SDS333

Am I going to see that much of a difference concidering it's a laptop and I can't O/C it anyway?

It did have 512mb of Micron PC2700.

Any opinions are welcomed
Thanks

consider yourself luck if it wasn't damaged as well. Newegg.com is not to be trusted. They can't properly package retail merchandise. How hard is it to put a box in a box with proper padding?

Cancel payment on your card and demand an RMA or include a fraud allegation. Lesson learned. Shop elsewhere.

I've never had a problem with their packaging. Although, I usually shop at mwave because of the price.

How can you justify making a statement like that? I have ordered many, many products from Newegg and I might add without error and the products came in one piece. As far as padding, my stuff was always padded with the styrofoam peanuts for protection. A lot of people here use them extensively and will continue using them. I will even sometimes pay more to get it from Newegg because if there is a problem they WILL RMA it without a hassle.

I have probably given Newegg about $5,000 for various merchandise and have not had one problem with their packing...it's always top notch...

I just bought about $1000 worth of computer parts from newegg and I must say the packaging is over the top compared to what I have experienced. Most places use only an airbag or two but Newegg went out of their way to fill the box with packing peanuts. Even the case sticker I got free came in a fedex box wrapped in large bubble wrap

All I can say is that if anything, Newegg's packaging is too excessive. I've bought a lot of stuff from them and never had a problem with improper or even average packaging, it has always been top-notch.

Now that my thread has been hijacked!!

I'm fine with newegg... They have awsome service.

Corsair put the sticker on the ddr saying it was PC2700, but really the ram is PC2100.

Will I notice any real world difference between PC2700 and 2100? Since I can't overclock the laptop and its fsb is 100MHz anyway?

Seems like a no brainer to me. Simply send it back and ask for what you ordered. You should have no problem with NewEgg. Mistakes happen - but generally they are an excellent supplier.

Gateway's specs on the original memory in that unit say transfer rates of PC1600 or 2100, so there should be no difference between 2100 or 2700. Gateway themselves sells both 266 and 333 MHz memory for it (obviously you "done good" by buying it elsewhere).

But, I go along with Corky. Since you bought PC2700, you might as well get it.

Apparently there are a lot of people using this thread to audition for Congress. They responded to your question by not answering it! Oh well, on the bright side, if they are successful they can give themselves a pay raise.

I can send the memory back to newegg, and they'll send me some more ram..

I just wonder if since the fsb on the laptop is 100MHz am I really going to see the difference between PC2700 and PC2100.

Thanks

my guess is that what it is registering is what speed it is actually running at, not what speed it can run at. if so, than it is not corsair's fault.

You won't see any difference. Check the prices though, that might be another reason to send it back, or ask for a partial rebate or something. ;)
