Looking for a SSD drive for a new system. On paper the new Corsair 240GB drive has much much better specs than the Samsung 830 256GB drive. But I'm not sure how that will translate into real world performance. I know Corsair is a very good company but so is Samsung. The Corsair drive is about $40 cheaper. I know it uses the Sandforce controller which in the past has not been very reliable. Have things changed or is Samsung the way to go? Here is a compare of the specs, and as you can see the Corsair drive beats the samsung in everything...

I have had my 830 256GB for about 3 months now. It used to open programs lighting fast in a split second really. Now over the last few days when I go to install a program I double click on the program's exe file and it takes about 5 seconds or more to open it. Does that sound right?

What benchmark? I don't see any. :hmm:

Depending on how big the .exe file is from the time you've tested in the past versus now, it will differ in terms of how long it will take to open it. I've been using my Corsair Force GT for quite a while and it has not been problematic, the same can be said for Samsung SSDs I guess.

Did you try using the Samsung Magician software and using the Performance Optimization tool?

I can't speak for the GS, but I have a couple of GT models I've had running for several months. Absolutely zero issues and they are blazing fast. The Sandforce controllers have had their major firmware bugs fixed for quite sometime now. Also, any mobo BIOS issues should have been addressed too. I wouldn't worry on that front.

OMG YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brother let me tell you that slowing down SSD I believe you.

I have 2x F4 sammy drives and their speed goes slow, I had a feeling the 830 by sammy would be the same way. I was right its the same,, sammy is no good.

With my Sammy drives , same thing I have to defrag 5 times then its full speed.. then 20 minutes later everything is much slower, using crystal btw...

There is nothing you can do about this slowness thing. Dont expect anything from Sammy  This is why I got what I got!!!!!!!!! I can live with 2x hd's doing this... but not a SSD ,,, sighs I feel for you...
