Corsair Dual Channel Questions (512 + 512) + 256 = ?)

Questions on Dual Channel Memory technology, thanks in advance for your help!

I just purchased 1gb Corsair XMS matched memory (512mb x 2) (2-3-3-6), which will arrive shortly. I also have two 256mb Corsair XMS matched memory (3-3-3-8) that I am currently using on ASUS A7N8X deluxe mobo. My motherboard only has 3 memory slots and it supports dual channel.

My plan is to use new 1gb memory set to run as dual channel, however, I'm not sure what to do with the third open memory slot. So my question is... would adding slower memory module (256mb 3-3-3-8) to third available slot next to faster memory set (512mb x 2, 2-3-3-6) limit PC performance?

Thanks!

Okay, thanks Azzy64!!

Another question then. If I were to purchase another identical Corsair XMS 512mb module (2-3-3-6) for the third slot, will it help or limit dual channel again? thanks!

lol Thanks for your feedback anyway.

I think I'll use 1gb (512mb x 2) setup for now and leave one empty slot until I do some further research. It's kind of dumb to provide 3 odd numbered DIMM slots IMO... I guess I know what to look for when I upgrade my motherboard.

Just go with the 2 x 512MB in DC. If you add one of the slower sticks, it'll make the the faster 512MB sticks run at the slower speed of the 256MB stick. I don't see where you would get much, if any performance increase with the extra 256 (over and above gig) anyway.
