In my experience, Dell is very finicky with non-Dell memory. I'd check Dell's customer support page to see if they have some answers there.

I wouldn't just go off and buy it, because it's more than likely it won't work.

Hi WolfeC23 and Welcome to the forums!

IIRC, Corsair, Micron or Crucial have on their websites a "ram compatibilty" finder (or whatever its called). Check their sites and see what they recommend.

Yeah, I checked Corsair's website to find what was compatible with my Dell, but I was wondering if I could get some RAM with better performance that might last me longer.

Is the new ram going to be in there with the old ram?

If yes, the newer/faster ram will run at the same timings as the slower/older ram. I.e, the new ram will by default revert to the settings of any slower ram in the system. Diff ram can't have diff timings, thats why faster defaults to the speed of the slower.

If you're replacing all ram, will need specs on your mobo to know what it can take. D/L Everst Home edition (free proggie, it'll tell you the chipset etc).

May not be a bad idea to hunt for a Dell forum and see what others have found about ram upgrades
