Corsair 2225 or GSkill 2.5-3-3-6 QUESTION!!!

I already have 1 Gb (2X512Mb) of Corsair 2-2-2-5. The memory is fast and I don't get any problems (besides I can't OC), but I think my mobo has known problems with low latency ram. It would cost me an extra $120 for 2 sticks of 512mb.

I can buy 2Gb (1GbX2) of GSKILL 2.5-3-3-6 for only $150, so technically after selling my corsair it would cost me only $30 to upgrade to 2Gb of this stuff.

My question is what is the best upgrade for the money? Would the low latency ram even make a noticeable difference?

Thanks guys!

Ok, no it wouldn't make any real difference, a few percent but not much. But by running 4 sticks you run @ 2T command rate, which means 5% performance hit on average.

If you can sell your current RAM and get 2x1gb of budget ram then that's the best thing in terms of performance.

Not sure if 2gb is more "stable", but it can definitely come in handy.

I have never noticed any siginificant difference with slower & faster CL timings. I wouldn't worry. 🙂

Timings really does not effect real-world performance. This is why i just suggest going with the cheapest stuff you can find from a reputable manufacturer. 2GB for $150 isn't bad at all and G.Skill has a pretty good rep when it comes to overclocking. So it sounds like a good choice.

Nice job bob. Sure you dont want to sell him a 150 watt powersupply while your at it? 😛 All kidding aside thats a good recommendation. Get 2x1gb of value ram. Preferably at least CAS 2.5.

I have a Neo2 Platinum Edition, Intel 3.4 Northwood, BFG 6800GT @ Ultra, 200GB 8mb 7200, Aspire 680W PSU

Thanks a lot for all the advice....i guess the 2X1Gb is the best idea then!

i agree with everyone, it's a good choice. but it won't "technically" cost you $30 to upgrade. are you going to sell your USED ram for the same price newegg or some other place sells its NEW ram for the same price? probably not. just trying to point something out

Yeah I looked into that. My memory is $200 new on Newegg and goes for between $120-$150 used on eBay. I've seen them go above $150 though used. If that happened to me (and might since i have perfect feedback), I'd actually make $ on this upgrade to 2 Gb of gskill. 🙂
