Corrupting laser based media.

Hi,

Is there a way to corrupt/destroy data on a laser based media (CD/DVDs) without physically damaging the media? For instance, microwaving the media will damage the data but it will also cause phyiscal damage...Manuals say direct exposure to sunlight may damage media but that would take a while (days/weeks?)

Any other way to get media corruption without physical damage?

Start another session burn to the disc and then force the burn to quit in the middle. Putting the discs in a bowl of water with some vinegar will eventually make its way to the dye and render it usless.

why dont you want to damage the media? that would be the easiest way. -- just cut the disc in half

Yes, it is a commercial CD (which I presume are CDR read-only)

Yes, but that may also damage the other side of the media which has the graphics, copyright information printed...

I know a way and I have just tested it to work perfect. Use a sandblaster. I used glass beads. It won't eat away at the disk hardly but just make the surface look dull. The dvd drive would not recognize the disk was inserted. Whether data could be read by any possible means, who knows, but if it were possible i'm sure it would be expensive to accomplish.
