Corrupted screen

I was given a Gateway computer a couple days ago with a pentium D processor. After the computer is on for a couple minutes the screen starts getting corrupted.

I've run memtest for several hours without errors. I checked the temperatures, voltages and updates all the drivers. (chipset, video... BIOS is up to date) I concluded that there is most likely a problem with the motherboard.

Bought a new motherboard. The intel d945GNT. I'm still having the same problem. By the way, I have nothing connected to this computer.. no usb or pci cards.

Temperatures are still fine.. all the drivers are updated. I get an error code on the motherboard splash screen on boot up though. It flashes "EB" then a second later it flashes "0" before going into windows. I've tried looking up the error code without much luck. I keep getting linked to stuff about legacy usb support. I guess the next step might be to disable that.. but I'm not expecting it to do anything.

I'm using onboard video until I get this straightened out. I only have AGP cards and this motherboard uses pci express.

Any ideas?

I appreciate it.

The same problem from 2 different motherboards. The only thing consistent in both builds is the processor and the ram. I mentioned that I ran memtest.. could the processor be at fault? I'm looking at temps now while the computer has been on for a while it everytying looks good. I have alot of blocks and artifacts on the screen.

EDIT: just realize that my temperatures really aren't that good. idling at 60c when max is suppose to be 90ish. Going to reset processor and maybe get some thermal paste.

Just applied new thermal paste. Temps are setting at about 50c now instead of 60c. Still have artifacts all over the screen. :frown:

I ran some tests that came with the motherboard utility. One at a time, I tested cpu, 2d graphics, memory, 3d graphics. With a reboot between the tests. All of them passed except the 2d and 3d graphics. It said my graphics memory is corrupted.

I'm using onboard video! memtest didn't show any problems with my ram. So what am I missing?

I appreciate it.

Here is a screenshot of what it's doing.

I just did a new install of windows from the original gateway restore cd. That's why IE is full of junk. Havn't cleaned it out yet. I didn't want to use my own copy of xp if I could get away with the gateway disc. I'm surprised it let me with the different motherboard.
