Have a customer that is uploading a .zip file made with WinRAR on a PC to our FTP Server (Server 2003), when we try to use WinRar to unzip the file after copying it from the FTP server to a PC we get a Diagnostic Message: The archive is corrupt.

I've also tried uncompressing the file on the FTP server itself, using the default windows unzip, it also reports that the file is corrupt.

The customer says that after he uploads it to the FTP server, he can download it back and then uncompress the file just fine. We are not experiencing the same problems with anyone elses files.

I double checked the login account permissions, and they are exactly as they are supposed to be.

Anyone have any idea what our customer is doing wrong?

Perhaps the customer should try a different FTP client? Either that or take advantage of the nifty recovery record feature in WinRAR:

The default unzip can't open rar files, I think, at least in Windows 7 and XP.

Try opening it in a text editor. Sometimes when I right click a link on Dropbox it's not actually the zip I download but an html file to a link to the zip. Heh.

1) Open your WinRAR application.
2) Click on File tab and then click on Open archive. Or simply press Ctrl+O.
3) A new small window “Find archive” will be appeared.
4) Now locate your corrupt RAR file from the system directory and then click on Open.
5) Click on Tools tab and then click on Repair archive. Or simply press Ctrl+R.
6) Again a new small window “Repairing FileName.rar” will be appeared.
7) Now Browse the location where you want to save the new repaired archive.
8) The box “Treat the corrupt archive as RAR” is checked by default. But if it is not, then do check it.
9) Click on OK. The repairing process of selected archive will be started.
10) Once it is successfully completed click on Close.
11) If you can't recover .rar file via the guide above, then use http://www.rar.openfiletool.com/ RAR Open File Tool
