Corrupt BIOS

I don't know if this is HIGHLY technical, but here goes:

I have a DFI AK76-sn Rev. B mobo and I was having problems installing an AMD XP 1600+ processor. I thought it might be the bios, so I tried to flash the bios to ak760304.bin. However, now my system will not even post, and I get a checksum error. I am pretty sure this is due to a faulty BIOS flash, and my understanding is that I have to physically replace the chip.

Is this correct, or is there any other way to reprogram the BIOS?

Is the board manufactur the only place to get the correct chip?
