go to tacos por favor in santa monica. Get the hard tacos and make sure to grab the red sauce.

I'll keep that in mind if I ever make it out there again.

The truck looked like it was from a Cheech & Chong movie, completely delapidated, seemed to have built to be an ice cream truck at from another era, miraculously it ran but poured out smoke. Shitty Mexican music playing and the nicest old fat Mexican guy who made everything. Awesome, simple and memorable moment.

So apparently under the GOP tax plan tuition wavers for graduate students will count as taxable income to student.

I've said it in the other thread, it looks like GOP has set out with a goal of finding and eliminating every single middle and working class tax benefit they could find while preserving 0.1%-er loopholes. The student loan interest deduction is gone, and now this? God forbid someone tries to better themselves, why help them, bootstraps is all they need.

While the Chinese plan on spending $150B US on besting the US in computer technology, the GOP plans jettison someone like this:
another first-year PhD student in Carnegie Mellon's machine learning department

Who needs a 21st century work force after all - certainly not the job creators 😳

CBO just said that the House tax bill will add $1.7T to the debt within 10 years. For the purposes of reconciliation this puts them over the budget resolution they passed at $1.5T.

That's a problem.

The Job Creators went multinational a long time ago. The value of the God Almighty Dollar & the availability of cheaper talent offshore means they don't need to invest in education in this country. Their political minions in the Repub Party are the first to rave about Patriotism and the last to exercise any on the economic front.

Dems are what they are: A loose knit amalgam of well meaning diverse cultures and ideas. But that old saying of bringing Dems together is like herding an army of cats comes with such diversity. It took a very strong and controversy-free personality like Obama to keep the cat's attention focused on the mouse and not the butterflies flitting to and fro over their heads.

The Dems need another Obama. Plain and simple. Well, they're going to need another Obama on steroids considering how the Trump administration is dead set on disassembling the very foundations of the gov't that's supposed to be of, for and by the PEOPLE and in its place permanently establishing the aristocrat class like himself as THE government we live under.

Like how these aristocrats rule the corporate fiefdoms that they have carved out for themselves, they want to rule the nation in the same manner: Absolute rule ruling absolutely, because they know what's best for themselves and they need a subservient working class to keep things that way.

The working class Repubs have sold their souls to them so its solely up to the Dems and independents to prevent the complete takeover from happening.

We need another Roosevelt. Honestly, I'd take either one over even Obama. Obama was strong domestically, but middling in foreign affairs. It's too bad unions became such a source of corruption, because otherwise they were the best stand ins for the middle class vis-a-vis American political power.

That's a problem.

Which means a few more percent of the middle class will now see a tax hike instead of a tax cut.

They'll just shift more of the tax burden down the scale to balance the books.

Massive Tax Reform! Massive as in Johnny Wadd massive...

Exactly, if China is willing to make a huge investment in advanced computing, who needs American college students. Meanwhile, since they live in the US, their taxes must be kept as low as possible, whatever the cost to us plebs or the nation. If the American standard of living risks their lavish lifestyles (such as declines in health care), they can always spend most of their time living in another country. The only loyalty they have is to their class, same as the rest of us I suppose, except they are winning by a landslide.

I assume they suspected this would happen which is why they've been monkeying around with repealing the ACA mandate to save cash. But tacking on healthcare stuff has it's own inherent political risks that could multiply exponentially.

Let's destroy one of the last things this country does better than anybody else. We're gifting the future to other countries if this idiotic effort doesn't die.

The tax bill is already unpopular. Screwing over the SALT people and hiking taxes on the lower income ranges in order to pay for corp cuts and doing away with the estate tax would be effectively political suicide for the party. They still might do it though.

Don't worry, they will wait until the last day, then do a 'must pass' vote at 11:45 pm, and because no one wants to be the one that shuts the government down right before Xmas it will pass. In other words, government as usual.

That's a separate piece of legislation. Though I do expect the Dems to stick Trump/GOP up for a DACA fix that doesn't involve some crazy bullshit like the wall in order to get votes for the CSR to keep gov open.

They need to do it this year so that they can get back to God, guns, gays, transgenders, illegals, terrarists, abortion, welfare queens, reefer madness & the redneck culture war for the midterms. Even if they lose seats it's likely that they keep 40 seats in the senate, enough to prevent future tax hikes on those who can best afford to pay them.

It's straight up top down class warfare & has been for decades.

I mean, isn't this what Trump supporters want: MAGA via draining the swamp? Their very own GOP is giving them the key to the exact outcome that they desire: end corporate, elitist ownership of their government.

So, here's the challenge, GOP voters and remaining deplorable Trump supporters: work to end this disaster of entitlements to the ultra wealthy disguised as "tax reform," and that money and corporate ownership of your government will end. What do you guys have to lose?

But it won't be political suicide. Because conservatives will keep voting for the GoP no matter what. Who cares that these things are hurting them and the middle class? It takes the liberals down the peg.

They are not a homogenous block of people, as their inability to actually govern has fully exposed. Start picking the pockets of upper middle class suburban Republicans they are going to notice and will vote accordingly.

LOL! Where else are they going to dump their money - the democrats?!
Wealthy contributor's lust for control of Washington won't end because tax 'reform' ends. Maybe there will be a pullback if they can't bilk more money out of congress, but they'll hardly stop since they have been largely successful so far.
