Corrected title: Now the GOP has accomplished massive tax reform

What is Rubio talking about when he says $1,100 child tax credit? The House version was $1,600 and the Senate version was $2,000. Did they lower it back to cut the top rate by over 2%? If so, I'm starting to wonder if there will be ANY middle class relief. Removing the personal exemption was bad enough, even with an expanded standard deduction. Keeping the child tax credit the same will cause millions of middle class people with several kids to pay more.

There is no way to give the rich and corporations a YUGE! tax cut with out making the middle class pay for it, especially if you are trying to do it by 'only' raising the deficit by $1.5 trillion.

Are liberal states going to pass their own health insurance madate penalties? Seems like they should to keep health insurance markets from collapsing from adverse selection in their states, now that GOP is gutting the penalty in the tax bill? I know MA had something like this under Romneycare?
Would that not effectively be a win for these states financially, as they would get to collect the penalty instead of Trump's IRS?

According to WSJ, $1100 is refundable even with no tax liability ($1000 under current law). The remainder up to $2k can only offset other tax liability. The WSJ article said the Senate bill allowed the child tax credit up to $500k income households, but they could dial that back to partly pay for Rubio’s demand.

As far as middle class tax relief, I used the calculator at CNN.com and it looks like I get a small break for 7 or 8 years until it sunsets. For some strange reason, middle class voters will take any small tax relief they can get, even if the lion’s share goes to the top 1%. A couple cited reasons are that middle class earners aspire to be millionaires, and don’t want to punish their future selves. A more likely explanation is that any tax cut is often viewed as a strike against the welfare state and freeloaders. I’m pretty sure my dad feels this way, actually. :disappointed:

I doubt this. In general if you are trying to figure out what the GOP will do think Robin Hood in reverse. Steal from the poor, give to the rich.

They are counting to see if they have the votes now. Adjustment to child tax credit to get Rubio's vote. I'm sure it will pass and then will be passed off as GREAT for the middle class. Heh...

It'll be older whiskey, younger women, faster horses & more money for Wall St. With hookers & blow, of course.

You should take him at his word! Nothing in his words said he was okay with a right-wing compromise though.

Again it seems pretty silly to be arguing that Democrats are attempting to make a right wing compromise on something that A) they have not compromised on and B) have not been asked by the Republicans to compromise on. Gotta stay in reality here.

It's what establishment Democrats do.

If you think the IDC are 'establishment Democrats' you are clueless or insane. They are Democrats fighting against the Democratic establishment because they are basically Republicans who aren't willing to run as Republicans and instead rely on low information voters to keep them in. I'm currently working with a group to try and oust Simcha Felder, in fact. I'm very much an establishment Democrat, and they hate IDC. (with the possible exception of Cuomo, who is a piece of shit for this and about eight million other reasons) You shouldn't talk about things you don't understand.

Needless to say it's telling that you decided to start talking about the NYS Senate instead of the US Senate as it's obvious there's no Democrats compromising there. You're just totally out of touch.

Their constituents don't want what they're selling. It's easy to just say when ever they do it they're just Republicans so don't see what your point is. Also, Cuomo encouraged it.

Anyway, for the Senate: how about the Gorsuch waffling and praising in liberal media and the BS about putting back the filibuster? Or the negotiations in the Obama admin for the grand bargain?

I don't even know what this means. The IDC are basically Republicans because they literally caucus with the Republicans to keep the Democrats (establishment and all!) from controlling the chamber.

You're all over the place now. You're trying to cover up your previous false statements with a blizzard of other crap. Not interested. Sometimes it's okay to admit you were wrong.

They're Democrats who don't want to do progressive things. That's why they're going along with the Republicans. Is Rubio or others not Republicans because they wanted amnesty?

What was false?

On CNBC, Senator from Ok thinks that you should be able to dip into your 401k at a reduced tax rate. I'll update once I hear his side......If it's before you're 59.5, that's crazy. Just a way to subsidize flat wages by letting people use their 401k like a credit card and then when it's time to pay the bill (retirement), there will be none left (maybe SS included)...

If Rubio caucused with the Democrats to give them control of the Senate I doubt many people would consider him a Republican. This is just common sense.

What was false?

That Democrats were compromising on this tax bill.

Corker’s is a Yes as well, game over.

There was never doubt on this. I love how the people at the top cuts have tripled since the House passed it's version a few week ago. Middle class? What's that........

Ego Von Tweeto is going to go public and state how bigly his tax cuts are for you, the middle class....and sadly, his base will eat it up...hook, line and sinker. The image below will be updated very soon......
