alright AT obviously isn't mature enough to handle dark humor
God forbid you ever have a loved one with Alzheimer's, but if you do you will understand why this isn't a laughing matter.

boo fvcking hoo, i guarantee i've had more people die in my family of horrible diseases like cancer, does that mean I have to parade it around like it's a cross to bear in an argument? do I win the cock waving contest?
You're being an asshole. I to have had family members die of cancer, heart disease, etc....but Alzheimers is incredibly cruel. Especially in it's early stages when the person with it knows there is something wrong with them but can't help to do anything about it.

Again, your story has no relevance in this thread and frankly nobody likes a martyr. I wasn't making fun of the disease, did people read this thread?

You're drunk.... sleep it off, take two aspirin in the morning and PM me about the hangover.

I've always said that drunken stupors tend to bring out your true colors...

Sometimes the saying is a little off though and hopefully this is one of those times.

I did. Both my grandparents died of it. I watched them struggle and die. You know what? We all found dark humor in it. Lay off CorpRec about it. The only way for us to cope was to make light of it all. Alzheimer's is so absurd that you can't help but make an absurd situation less dark. Did you hold both of your grandparent's hands when they died of Alzheimers? They didn't even know who I was for 10 years. They called me "Charlie" which was their grown son.

I was beginning to lose hope for a shred of reason in this thread but it appears to have arrived late. AT needs more posters like millennium instead of uptight assholes who can't see past the scope of their own lives and their immediate surroundings.

This is sick.

I have nothing but pity for this great man and his family, because seeing a loved one deteriorate like this is one of the worst things that can happen to someone.

Have a nice life, loser.

I couldn't agree with you more: laughter is a form of coping with a situation, but the American tendency is to repress it and bottle it all inside. This receprocates to more sadness and so on. This is true for many things; powerful emotions aren't meant to be bottled up.

Give the guy a break. Christ, this thread isn't mean spirited. It may be a little insensitive, but that's life. If we spent our entire lives attempting to cater to every single individual's level of sensitivity the world would be a dull place.

Yes, we all know what a great man Reagan was. He gently passed away and he's being remembered (ad nauseum on television). His death wasn't tragic. Get over yourselves. Please.

The American flag avatar embodies your cowboy persona quite well. You want to cause physical harm to a person for his attempt to cope with a tough situation. How productive and helpful; I suppose that I ought to come over and beat you up for however you're coping with your relative's illness as well.

So maybe you're a fvcking dumbass then? Why can YOU decide what is proper for people? I lost both to it, and I find jokes like that funny. Why? Not because I'm disturbed, but because I have to cope. You've obvious never lost many close relatives. I lost my father when I was eight, and both grandparents when I was in my teens. I've had no choice but to poke some humor at the situations. Be an internet e-thug for all I care, but it totally shows a lack of control on your part. To be honest??? I didn't really find the Reagan thing as funny -- as much as I find it "cute." Don't ask me why that word popped into my head, but I can just imagine it. We used to crack-up when my Great Aunt(she had it as well) and her sister(my grandmother) used to tell use the same stories 5 times a day. It was FUNNY. Not that they died that way, but the absurdity of the disease. Evidently you piss blood everynight from being unable to lighten up.

Thanks for your .02

The guy was being an ass and laughing at someone with Alzheimers. How he or anyone else can defend that I do not know.

My grandfather passed away from it. It was trully sad. I was the only one he rememberd. Though he thought i was still 8 years old and not married :(

saddly sometimes laughter is a good way to deal with problems. I don't fault Mil the OP.

wonder why the SS men did that? is it because Reagen enjoyed it so they kept him happy? or to be assholes?

Geez, nothing like seeing fellow Americans calling someone out for boasting the American flag as his avatar. Since when has being proud of the american flag meant that you are a 'cowboy'? Is it like that all over Indiana?

Uhh, you are, on both counts, and you agreed with him. It doesn't take much of a brain to figure out who I was referring to. Or did you, ahem, forget who you are and where you live?

Yeah...it's real fvcking funny that my Grandmother has paranoid delusions and has tried to kill herself on several occasions. That's a laugh riot. It's real funny to see a woman who was kind and loving have fits of violence and hatred so strong they are down right frightening. It's also real funny that while living with one of my Aunt's she attacked one of her great Grandsons and was strangling him because she thought he had raped her. It's real fvcking funny to see that. Why I'm laughing so hard right now that I'm about to pass out. As for my being an e-thug. Piss off.....this thread made me very angry and I let my emotions get carried away. I'm glad you can laugh at such a horrible disease and find humor in a loved one being overcome by it. Personally I find it sad that she is slipping away...

Ironic you're forgetting the most wonderful thing about this country is freedom of speech. Am I not allowed that? Am I not allowed my own opinion even if it's radically different from yours? It looks like someone needs to brush up on what it means to be American.
