Did you see Erik the Viking? "Always remember pillage and rape first, then burn."

When I did IT then I listed my position, the phone number, and that IT branch I was a part of. (It was mandatory)
Better question is how you greet people. I used to use Howdy X, or Howdy,
I use hello now. Not as cheery anymore.
I prefer not to sound like an ignorant moron, so I use "hello".

First Name,
Get shit done.

It's proven to get more responses than hello. So, suck it.
Why use a greeting at all? Be a boss.

If I was speaking to engineers all day then I would do that. However, I speak to doctors a lot and they like greetings.
It depends on the context. I have used "Thank you", but most of the time, I sign off with, "Should you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate to contact me." I sometimes replace "me" with "our office".
Below that is the typical over-inclusive lawyer's auto-signature with disclaimer and warning.

Why engineers? I speak to C-staff, mid-level executives, business owners, doctors, lawyers, etc. all day and they all like a wide-range of things. There are many more important things to focus on than e-mail greetings, and anyone worth their salt knows that and would never say anything.
