Corporate stupidity

Does anyone else here have a corporate job? If you do, I'm sure you have some good stories to share about corporate stupidity. Maybe not Dilbert or Office Space quality stories, but annoyingly funny stuff nonetheless.

Here are some things that annoy me. I see this every day.

1. People feel the need to hold impromptu meetings in heavy traffic areas. For instance, I'm walking into the cafeteria and you get 2 idiots that stop IN THE DOORWAY and decide to start a conversation. They're taking up the only path to get in/out of the cafeteria. Everyone is stalled behind them while they talk about useless crap such as getting their Volvo serviced or putting up a fence up in their yard.

Another favorite place is the stairwell. They'll run into someone in the stairwell and they'll stop there and start talking. The people who were going up and down the stairs now have to wait on the stairs until these inconsiderate people get done talking.

2. People use the wrong doorway. There will be a line of people walking through a double set of doors and you'll always get someone coming the other way that decides that they're too lazy to open up the right door to go through- they'll walk into oncoming traffic to try to fit through the door that the guy in front of you just opened. When you bump into them, they'll look at you like you just did something wrong.

3. People walk 3 or 4 abreast in the hallway, preventing others from passing. I guess they think their conversation is too interesting to be considerate to others.

4. People walk on the wrong side of the hallway. I don't know about you, but we learned in first grade to stay to the right so you don't walk into people. 20 years later, you get people who walk on the wrong side of the hallway in a corporate building and they look surprised when 25 people bump into them.

5. People take control of and then cancel meetings- At my girlfriend's workplace, they had a meeting scheduled. The topic only concerned a certain group. Enter Captain Idiot, a higher level manager from another department. Even though the meeting did not concern this guy or anyone in his group, he wanted to sit in on the meeting. So he first uses his position to change the scope of the meeting to indirectly concern his group so he can sit in. Since he's now the highest level manager in the meeting, he now has control of it. He then changes the time of the meeting. He then changes the date of the meeting, and finally he postpones the meeting indefinitely, killing it. Why? I have no idea.

Share your own humorous stories or things that bug you.

This reminds me of the "human tsunami of retardedness" comment someone posted.

This isn't just in one place, this has been at a few different corporate sites. It seems that it's in fashion to do this stuff.

This is nothing new- people have known for years that things in the corporate world are screwy. Just look at Dilbert.

Why the Corporate world? Those examples are just people in general.

I've seen examples of 1-4 outside the office.

I tend to get more annoyed by people using corporate buzzword speak. How many times per day do we need to drill down and focus on those core competencies, so that we can take it to the next level and facilitate the maximization of ROI? It's all about being best-of-breed!

I took what you said into consideration. I'm moving forward on delivering a solution, and I'll touch base with you at the next brainstorming session.

Yes, but you'd expect people in a corporate office to be held to a higher standard than just someone off the street. I'd expect someone in Wal-Mart to bump into me after walking through the wrong door, but it's a bit surprising when you see someone who makes $150,000 a year acting like a clueless fool.

That was the first thing that popped into my head. Reminds me how during our freshman orientation week back in college our couselor gave us 15 minute lecture on how to walk properly. No jokes, the whole point was you should always walk on the right side of the hallway, keeping towards the wall if you're walking slower than general traffic.
