i'm so pissed .. we've been having problems with our laserjet printer for a few months now and it's so outdated that HP doesn't support it anymore, so we have to call in a contractor who charges $95/hr to fix it plus parts .. I priced a BRAND NEW laserjet printer that would suffice and be much better than what we keep "fixing" and it comes out to about $1800.. I presented this to the head people, and they DECLINED IT and said they'd rather just pay to have the old one fixed!!

Now 5 months later, we've spent $1500 on labor, and $400 on parts on this printer, and the contract repairman is BACK AGAIN!@ WTF?!?!@

Something else that may be behind this is.... If you buy something new it comes out of department X's budget, if you repair it it comes out of general funds or repair funds. So if my Bonus is based on how much my department, X, sepnds then I will have it repaired. Might be dumb for company, but smart for me.

Your company is absolutely right. Better to keep fixing the current one than to buy a new one.

The current printer is a capital assest that has already depreciated. That's golden, its like a free printer now because it isn't on any capital or depreciation budget.

Now all they have to do is use expense monies to repair the printer. If you buy a new printer you'd need the capital to purchase it and then also the depreciation over the next 2, 3, 5 years or whatever schedule your company uses.

So sorry, your company is doing the corporate thing.

Why can't you just post a url so people who want to check it out can?

I said to PM because usually people have all kinds of questions about it and it's just easier to explain it first, then give the URL. The site doesn't make a lot of thing clear... L

inkThe offer is open for anyone else who has a question about this too, PM me and I'll try to answer your questions. NO I don't work for Xerox, I just love this printer and it's so damned cheap to use! 🙂
