Coronavirus masks

Looks like the federal government is close to issuing guidelines suggesting that citizens wear home made masks. We bought some materials to make masks today. Anyone else going to wear a mask if the CDC/Feds recommend it?

I already wear 3M N95 mask when I grocery shop. That's the only time I'm around people other than my family. Today I gave four 3M N95 masks to my sister so she can protect her family and kids. I bought 2 contractor boxes along with couple 2 packs of 3M N95 masks back in January as cheap insurance in case this turned out to be something serious. My sister thought I was crazy for buying it then. Today she told me she's glad she has crazy brother. 🙂

I wear a 3m p100 respirator everywhere. I have 4 of them and my wife refuses to wear it because she says they look too weird.

I dont get women 🙄

I have some N99s and when I did my food shopping yesterday I wore one. Most people wore some kind of mask which at least reduces aerosols. Making a mask properly could help from infecting others but as take out is how a lot of people "cook" I have to wonder. Basic skills used for millenia have been on the decline since the 1950's. Might not be bad to at least get the basics down.

I might start wearing masks when I go grocery shopping. I have some N95s that I'll donate to the local hospital, so I may just wear my snowboarding masks.

Is any (thick) fabric acceptable? I understand the mask should be washed in-between uses.

I've been wearing a sewn mask for the last two weeks already.

We learned a lot from SARS in 2003 that for some reason* our government and the health organizations are content not to share until it's too late to be as impactful as it could have been.

I had about 15 N95s left in a box that i bought years ago for work. I kept 2 & gave the rest to my doctor. I'll have to look, i might have one in my box at work too.
Population density is low here so i'll see how things go. Haven't been wearing a mask yet.

Gee, that's nice. First the government chastises people for wearing masks because it "causes a panic", then tries us to convince us they don't even work for COVID-19, then asks us to donate any masks that we might have in storage to medical personnel, and THEN does a complete 180 and tells us that we should be wearing homemade masks as well long after any actually effective masks have sold out??

I think that I want to take one of those masks and shove it up CDC's ass right about now. You know, just to let them know how much I appreciate their propaganda... err... advice.

Wearing a face mask is certainly not an iron-clad guarantee that you won’t get sick – viruses can also transmit through the eyes and tiny viral particles, known as aerosols, can penetrate masks.
