CoreV2/Solid series and G.Skill usb ports

I've seen reports the OCZ drives with mini USB ports can't be used as a USB storage device, is this true?

A USB drive that can't be used for storage wouldn't even make a good door-stop or paper weight.
Got any links to those reports?

Yeah, OCZs own site. They talk about updating the firmware with it, but no mention of using it as an external drive, which makes me wonder what they're using for a controller or if it's even recognizable by windows as an external drive. I'm certainly not ordering without knowing. They never explicitly confirm or deny it in any reviews or ocz's site.

I do know the g.skill does work in that way. But I'm thinking they wont offer as good firmware support. Also, OCZ is an american headquartered company, if I can get what i need from them, i will.

the usb PORT on the DRIVE... not a USB DRIVE.. a usb drive (aka, only usb port) without a working port is as useless as a car with no wheels, but that is not what he is referring to.

it is an SATA drive, it uses only SATA to act as a drive.

The USB port is for upgrading the firmware only! And that is completely fine... so yes, you can not use the USB port on the SATA drive to transfer data.

That being said, the ONLY SSD drives worth buying (aka, better than a regular spindle drive), are the OCZ vertex and the intel X25
