Coretemp issues

I've been using Coretemp lately as a Core (obviously) temp monitor to see how things look on my new round of 3375mhz testing for my processor. The damnedest thing likes to happen more often than not - I'll run tests (orthos, and super pi 32m) and everything is all cool *BUT* as soon as I open Coretemp my computer reboots

Tried it without running prior programs and after - same deal...most of the time.

Doesn't happen 100% just more often than not. And I had the same issue at my 3.0ghz clock settings too but now I'm really curious.

If someone has had the same issues or knows of a possible fix please let me know.

Doubt it's an issue with your OC if the other programs don't crash it almost immediately.

All Core Temp is doing is reading a register from your CPU. Problem is, it runs in the highest level (kernel mode) so if there are any bugs in the program, the OS will crash too. That's probably what is happening. Post this on the Core Temp dev's forum.

Well, I am having issues with Core Temp as well. The minute I try running it, first a message appear saying I am missing a Drivers or some such then windows start to pop up none with a message I don't remember. I tried starting it in admi. mod and setting up the compatibility, still doesn't work. The only way I can stop windows from popping is to shut the down the session.

Are you using Vista x64 by chance?

I got the newer beta of coretemp 0.95.4 and its not crashing my system but itself (coretemp) is a little unstable - doesn't really like to stay open all the time

thats better than system crashes but I like to see how things are by using a low foot print temp reader -- everest is a favorite of mine but is a hog compared to coretemp when all I want is core readings

Yes I am.

After browsing on the internet, I found that it's a known issue. Something to do with signed drivers required. As far as I could gather from my reads, there is a way around it but it didn't work for me. Apparently, you can Press F8 while booting your system and it will take you to a screen where you'll get the option of disabling '' use signed drivers only ''. Once this is done, you got to run the program as an admin. It suppose to work. Obviously, I don't know what kind of effects this can have on the long run when this option is disable.

I know of that work around. It is only temporary. The setting that disables the check for signed drivers does not remain that way if you restart.
