You need 4GB of RAM for Vista or 7 or 8 also a SSD

RAM prices have skyrockted to the roof. What I bought last december,, they now have listed more then I payed for it. Its more expensive same thing almost year ago.. wow

Hahahaha, holy cow, did the author really write that? So by that logic, if I happen to be on an older single core CPU, and I want to open and edit a very large image, he would still recommend only 2GB of RAM on that computer?

Well to be fair even the largest image files are only 30MB max (RAW) and only 3-4MB if jpeg100.

I was thinking of opening video game maps, like Super Metroid, which can take up over 2+GB of RAM if you have a couple of them open simultaneously. I have actually done that before on my Pentium 4 PC that had 3GB RAM.

I suppose I could have thought of a better usage example that consumes a lot of RAM, but that was the first example that popped into my head that I've actually encountered on an older single core PC.

When I was in college, I derived a formula involving bus speed, MIPS, and a couple other things which gave good recommendations/results.

It "broke" a couple years ago, with multichannel DDR. (I wasn't expecting that.)

Hate to have to open several PSD (300MB+) on said single core 2 gig machine.

8GB is enough and 16GB is future-proofing. Remember, Windows 7 HP SP1 only supports upto 16GB of RAM.
