Currently running an e6300 @ stock with 2 GB of DDR 667. I am looking at the new 650i boards like the Asus P5N-E SLI since they offer good overclocking with SLI at a reasonable price.
Since my current CPU/RAM combo limits me to around 2.3 GHz (333MHz FSB x7) I was looking at some options for improving my o/c overhead.
Option 1: purchase an e4300 for $175 (9x multi) and keep my DDR2 667. At 333 MHz FSB an e4300 would be running 3.0 GHz.
Option 2: purchase some DDR2 800/1000 for $250-$300 and run the e6300 at 400-450 MHz FSB for a core speed of 2.8-3.1 GHz .
I've looked at a few benchmarks and the e4300 is nearly identical to the e6300 at similar speeds. The e4300's higher multiplier lets it get more bang for the FSB buck so to speak, but I'm wondering if the gains (if there are any) from a faster FSB/Memory are worth the extra $$.
