Core2 Duo E6400 questions...

I'm using Core Temp to find out the avg temps for my E6400, and when i first installed Core Temp, it told me around 34/35 (core1/core2) and i decided to restart (btw, BIOS says temp around 30) and ever since that first restart, my temps read a 43/45....this all at idle, haven't looked into the load temps yet. Is this normal? Also, what i really want to know, how do you disable the fan speed? I want it to run at max at all times. I'll possibly be getting a new hs/f soon, but i want one w/ the lowest dba possible, but i want it to be good as well which is asking alot. ^_^

I run my fan at 100% all the time on my CPU. I'd take the extra noise for added cooling.

For temps it's normal for a system to heatup to a certain temp. Initially it will read low, but later it will jump up a few deg.

I agree! Running fans at 100% is the way to go. Messing around with fan speeds/programs/etc is bullstein.

My temps tend to read high right at first and then cool down... but I guess this is just me? Nothing extreme... just a couple of degrees.

I do like the quiet of running low fan speeds. However, it's at a sacrifice of pure performance since by cranking up the fan I can get faster speeds.

No it's not the BIOS. If you have a 4 pin fan connector on the mobo you can control the fan via software where it will adjust automatically via thermals. In other words, when you run hot it speeds up. Turn this off with the utility that came with your mobo CD. There is an option for Q-Fan support. You can disable it there. By turning this option to disabled it runs at 100% speed all the time.

OK...i got Core Temp...it says 40/41 on the cores. I got the nerve to install FoxOne again and check in it, its telling me 25-26c, which is the same as my bios...which one do i trust more??? lol. I want to o/c but first want to make sure my temps are good, i also plan on getting a new hs/f before this goes down. When i'm using foxone, it will beep saying my cpu fan went below 500rpm, which i've watched it and it doesn't hiccup at all. But it did have a bit of a problem earlier on. I did go and buy a brand new TT hs/f and foxone done the same thing with it, so i think its just faulty software somewhere?? Who knows.

Core temp is the program to trust. It actually reads the thermal sensor INSIDE the CPU, not the socket sensor like the motherboard does. Any manufacturer utility that came with the motherboard reads the temp of the CPU socket sensor.

My E6400 @ 3.2GHz idles at 54C according to Coretemp; that's a realistic number because I keep the HSF running as slowly as possible. After years of my PCs having 4-6 80mm fans, I love the silence of my P180 and it's 120mm fans.

If I run the HSF at full tilt, my idle temps drop to the upper 40's, but then i can really hear it.

I have no issues with temp-related probs, so I'm happy.
