I don't know anything about that book, except that it is pretty big (810 pages) and I'm not a fan of really big programming books. Takes up to much room on the shelf, and they tend to be full of so much tedious cruft that it takes forever to find what you need.

I'm very happy with this one: Python, The Essential Reference

The O'Reilly book, Learning Python is kind of marginal IMHO.

Off topic, but I've found that the quality of O'Reilly books varies widely. Some are excellent and others are terrible. I'm becoming a big fan of New Riders on the basis of their Python & MySQL books.
