Core i7 TIM installation

Just realized I was putting the line on wrong from the C2Q instructions on the site!

This is how the die is oriented. Notice the triangle and where it is on your board socket. I ran a bead of AS down this way (perpendicular to the way it was before) and my temps dropped a few degrees and are more consistent core to core.

Just a heads up. Sorry if this has been discussed at length in the past. I have not seen any mention.

i7 the cpu is a rectangle not a square.

However the i7 is a single die not dual die.

So you need a line down the middle going paralell to the long side.

My line isnt too long, its more of a long rice grain in the middle going down.

As long as the TIM covers the area in the drawn square in my picture above it should be a good mount.

yup.

because thats the main area of concentrated cooling you require.

everything else on the IHS is protection and support so you dont crack the die while mounting a 1kg+ sink to cool it.
