Core i7 help needed for Folding@Home Console Clients.

Just got through upgrading my main rig. The Q9550 got replaced with a Core i7 920 setup. I am running 4x Folding@Home console clients setup with machine ID as 1/2/3/4 on each. This kept the Q9550 at 100% CPU load. Now with HT turned on, my Core i7 shows an even 50% load. Can I run 8 clients or should I stick with 4 and modify my setup somehow?

you can run 8 clients on it. To get the max out of it run the SMP client (3-4 of them!)

SMP gives you a HUGE!!! increase in production and ppd you should really consider it

Yes. Switch to SMP and run 3 of them. I used to run 2 SMP clients on my Q6600. 3 SMP should max out your new shiny i7 with HT enabled.

whoa, just welcomed three of those I7's to the fold to replace q6600...well, honestly, nothing ever gets replaced in the Gravity farm. I have some old dell laptops and old single core AMD units that are crunching single core units. I was only running one or two smp clients on them. Had yet to read about the capabilities of the I7. Thanks for the tip!

Keep folding,

Gravity
