Nailed it.. 3.8ghz and rock stable. 12 hours I ran Prime95 on LARGE FTT. I used RealTemp 2.70 to record temp of the cores. Max I hit was 87C on one core but when I checked it, the core was sitting at 84-85C. Stopped Prime and had no errors whatsoever. My setup:

Core i7 920 @ 3.8ghz (1.35V)
-BLCK FREQ: 190
-DRAM BUS Voltage: 1.64V

Patriot Viper DDR3 1600 (Running @ 1523mhz)
Asus P6T Deluxe
Antec True Power Trio w/3 12V Rails
MSI GeForce GTX 260 OC
NOCTUA NH-U12P Special Edition (Very Massive - Had to drill holes into the side door of the case and reposition the fans.)
RAIDMAX Smilodon (2 Custom Placed Air Intake Fans - 1 on video card, other in front of Noctua intake)
Western Digital Caviar Black 7200rpm 32mb cache
Razer Lycosa
Razer Lachesis

70C running Seti seems high - even for the stock cooler. Is that at stock speeds as well?

In my experience, Seti/Folding never really tax your system the same way 8 threads of Prime95, OOCT, or Intelliburn does. I would probably assume the temps would be >70 if you tested of these other programs for a few hours instead.

I've got the Noctua installed for an over-clocked E8600.

On the thermal-resistance issue -- the best single index of performance I know of -- it beats the TRUE and some other high-end heatpipes.

The copper version of the TRUE is too heavy, but shows some comparable performance. This CM V8 mentioned above is also showing good performance stats, but I haven't seen enough reviews.

It's possible to get the socket1366 bracket-kit for the Noctua for around $10, although it looked as though the maker was selling them for a ridiculously high price.

Hi everybody! This thread inspired me to purchase the Noctua U12P SE1366 for the i7 920 system I ordered last night. I hope I have as much luck as you have with OCing.

Did any of you install the cooler into an Antec 900 case? Do you think it will fit in that case without issue?

Their site may not be fully updated, but their local Sunnyvale storefront is decked to the nines. Almost makes me want to do another new build, but my wife would kill me. Plus, I don't really need it.

How competitive are their instore prices compared with NewEgg?

I'm gonna get a Core i7 920 ( maybe 940 after reading aigomorla's thread sometime ago...) to replace my P4 ( reminds me of a guy in this forum - can't remember his name). Too bad O/C is out of the story because I couldn't find any local stores that sell aftermarket i7 coolers and also it's summer here and the temp in my room in the day can hit 25 deg C.

LOL...yeah, +1 on that....however P4 is damn ancient!

For me the word envy fails to fully capture the emotion I have in regards to the hardware these folks are getting to play with at the moment. :(

My best rig at the moment is a B3 stepping QX6700 (65nm) on an X38 mobo. My e-peen is so weak and flaccid these days, am having those high-school feelings of inadequacy all over again

Must...resist...urge...to...tap...kids...college...fund...to...upgrade.......again...

you can always get more kids, but you'll never have a better chance to fix your epeen...

You might have to reposition the fan on the door. There's a chance it will clear it. The Noctua is well worth it though. That thing is a beast of a cooler.

I decided to bump the voltage from 1.30V to 1.35V and try for 3.8GHz. So far it's been 100% stable. I've passed 8 threads of Prime95 for 12 hours now. It looks like 3.8GHz is very doable with a good cooler and 1.35V.

A good cooler is not going to help that much. It is the ambient temp around the PC that is more crucial.

No i7 here, running a 3.8-4.2ghz Wolfdale. I should have not upgraded from my e4500 and just went to i7.

Ambient temp isn't going to help much when the cooler doesn't move the heat from the processor to the ambient air fast enough. A better cooler will greatly help dissipate the heat from a Core i7 processor. Check this video out.

I was under the assumption you are not using a stock cooler and using something midrange or like an ultra 120.

I'm not running stock. I have the Cooler Master V8. I'm replying to your statement of "A good cooler is not going to help that much. It is the ambient temp around the PC that is more crucial."
