I just hope evga makes its dual socket 2011 board still as it was a concept board.

2 of these with 32gb of 2133 quad channel ram would be a killer setup for any heavy movie creation edititing setup.

Dual socket will require Xeons.

The quad channel xeons are on 1567 and I think the 2011 sandys will have 2 qpi links

What ever they call it don't matter,we have benches from a unlocked dual 2011 platform.

These chips are going to be expensive and I don't think intel will put out an unlocked xeon but time will tell

Core i7 3930K for me on 11.15.2011. 🙂

First new build in 3 years! Assuming they had a 6-core + MB + new cooler for <$1000 I was going to take a bite.....I need something new to play with!

Edit: Plus 28nm GPU goodness soon after! This will be a fun next 4-6 months for new tech. 🙂

here is my next board if it ever comes out.

that board was designed by shimano (peter) and he took a lot of feedback from serveral of my friends who special in server gear.

Shimano is no longer with eVGA, so i dont think you'll see a board near that spec again unless another shimano like person decides to take a shot at it.

But lemme tell you how hardcore shimano is... he is the type who can fix almost anything at a bench session... even down to frankenstiening 580GTX's like so:

If those numbers are true or close this could be very first extreme edition processor i ever purchase.

Passed up every temptation for a extreme going back to x6800.

Could never justify one BUT if i didn't hear about the early sandy bridge rumours i would have been using a 980x about now.

Hope we don't have a 3960x thread for all the braggers who will own one...

But with SB-E lacking PCI-E 3.0, but Ivy Bridge having it, once again, the newer platform (Ivy Bridge) will be FASTER in gaming than SB-E, just like SB on 1155 is faster than 1366.

Or do you think that newer 28nm GPUs won't take advantage of PCI-E 3.0? I'm pretty certain that they should support it.

Numerous tests have shown that the top of the line graphics cards of today only show negligible performance difference between 16x and 8x on PCI-E 2, so I can't imagine that 3 will offer much of an additional performance edge.

That said, I really don't expect SB-E to be a vastly superior gaming alternative to the 2500K. It will certainly be better, but at $200 the 2500K is such a good deal that anything beyond that has incredibly high diminishing returns for what you'll pay. If you're just building a gaming rig, even the 2600K isn't really worth the extra $100.

Great. Another bogus result using obsolete benchmarks of software no one uses. Does XBitLabs have any credibility whatsoever?
