Hi guys.I just finished building up my PC.I bought the parts one by 1.It consists of an core i5,ATI HD 5770,2gb ddr3 and a gigabyte p55 MObo.The only thing i ended up using back is the old PSU from an old desktop i had before. It's of extremely poor quality not one of those brand name ones. Its Codegen 475watt.It costs 15 US dollars...Do u guys think that it could be my problem why the system cutts off like that and reboots itself...that the PSU can't handle the load and power draw especially from the videocard and other components?I have not reached to the point of installing a Windows OS on it..I have just tried to go into the bios twice.ANd after it did that i have just parked it up and am going to order a good grade PSU on monday hopefully.Your help and info will be greatly appreciated..thank u.

Err... if it turns on but you aren't in Windows I'm not sure it's all the PSU's fault. How's your temps? Do you have a short somewhere?

Well i even took it out off the case to eliminate any shorts but it's still doing the same thing.I see the first post screen but am not able actually go into the bios to at least check temps...cause while i am pressing delete to enter the bios it shuts off.And sadly i dn't have any pc speaker at hand to listen for beeps.

That power supply is more like a 175 watt PSU. 18 amps on single 12v+ rail.

I wouldn't even boot with it to begin with. To be honest though its not exactly drawing much power to install windows or get into the bios so even that hunk of junk should be able to do that at least, unless its starting to fail.

Pick up a Seasonic SS-350-ET, 350 power supply, 80 plus bronze, 34amp 12v+ rail. It can power your setup no problem for around $40, best deal around for high quality. (or SS-400-ET)

Ensure to remove the 74HC193 counter circuit!

They are there for initial safety but they cuase your machine to go down in 60 seconds.

What is scaring me right now are the possibilities..Some say it's ram..some say cpu some say mobo..I am honestly considering sending back the mobo and cpu and let them send back the same 2 pair of parts again cause it would hurt me if i get the new PSU and the mobo still does that looping crap....You guys think it's a good idea?Cause if i send back the mobo and cpu for a new pair i would order the PSU at the same time so that trio would all arrive here at the same time and i would be able to get a fresh start or another go on what should of been done initially....I would try to get my hands on a good PSU from a friend over the weekend..And if it doesn't work.Sunday I would be organizing to get that cpu and mobo sent back...

How are your temps? The fact that it does power up makes me think the CPU is working correctly. If your HSF isn't set correctly it may be getting too hot and shutting down.

I think his ps is heating up and under powering his system causing it to shut down. Too many people try to skimp on the ps when it's the heart of any pc. Under volting your components can damage them not to mention the power spikes being sent to everything attached to the ps.

Big apology to all u anand tech members..The problem was the video card. What happened is that when the system boots the led lights would come on to show the CPU max loading and then after when it's going into windows it cuts off..So i really taught that it was the Mobo that was shutting off when the leds cut off like to prevent damage but it was working perfectly normal.I ended up doing what I was suppose to do initially and that was Taking out the video card and put it in another machine..Well that is what i did and it gave me no display..So i took out my geforce 9500 gt card i had in my older box and slapped it in and everything worked without hiccups on first try.I am so sorry for giving u guys that wrong information about the system cutting off..But as i said it's the first time i ever really built a core i5 and gigabyte system...So i was kinda reluctant to troubleshoot.CPU temps are 68F.Is that too high?If it is what could be causing it?..not to sure if that's normal or high for a corei5 quad.Well i have already sent amazon.com an email about the video card and i expect a good reply which i am sure about..So i would get a new card and also buy that Seasonic SS-350-ET what Bigstyle mentioned to me and I think I will be good to go..Again I apologize for the mistake. And i would look at it as a good experience so in the future I doubt I would make the same mistake twice..Thanks again.
