Core i5 small overclock

I've tried to read up on overclocking, but I've only succeeded in confusing myself. Most guides I've seen are trying to find the max. I just want a small sustainable change.

What I have:
- Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3P
- Core i5 750
- Mushkin DDR3 1600 7-9-7-24

What I want to do:
- Overclock to a conservative 3.0Ghz
- NOT overclock the memory, but keep it at the rated specs
- Keep the i5 Turbo Boost working

I change BCLK to 150, but that also seems to want to mess with my memory settings.

Any advise on how to do this?

Look for your MB's memory divider looks something like 2:6 2:8 2:10 etc. It most of the time can be found on the same page that you change the BCLK on.

Okay. So if I change the ratio so that it leaves the memory settings alone, then is BCLK all I need to change? Is it that easy?

You might wanna double check your voltages and lock them down if your board auto's them. Alot of times the board shoots them too high.

Just boot into bios and check them write down in this post and somebody will lyk if cool or you need to adjust them.

your board is probably running your DDR3 1600 ram at DDR 3 1333 speeds if the clock is 133. Just up the clock to 160 and it will automatically run your DDR3 at it's stock speed and give you a 3.2ghz + turbo to 3.8 boost. Make sure you have an aftermarket cooler. I've found the retail cooler is fine for normal stuff, but gaming it gets into the 70s and reaches 80c.

The highest RAM multiplier of i5-750 is 10x and so the best frequency you can achieve on your RAM at BCLK=150 is 1500(=150x10).

However, you can easily set your BCLK to 160 if you really want to run it at rated specs. Although it would make your CPU 3.2GHz(=160x20) by doing so, it won't hurt your CPU more than at 3.0GHz. (p.s. Actually, i5-750 is most efficient at 3.2GHz according to TOM Hardware.)

Thanks all. I did exactly as suggested. With BCLK at 160 I have a beautifully stable FAST machine with TURBO BOOST intact.
