do we have any actual idea what what would separate a 2400 with an oc'd 2500k? say frames per second wise?!


i've got this nagging doubt that i'll get a 2500k and start farting about with oc, then someone will actually test the two against each other and prove i could have got the cheap one! 😉

You can OC an i5 2400 up to 3.8GHz. Comparing that with a 2500K at 4.5GHz, you'd get around 5% higher frame-rate on games on average. On CPU only applications you'll see a more pronounced difference, around 15%.

yeah, 5% is not amazing..my prime driver is frames per second..anything else i can wait for..

0%. They use the exact same CPU. The only difference between the 2400 and 2500K in CPU performance is the 2500K has an unlocked multiplier and is clocked by default 200MHz higher. Clocked the same you'll get the same performance out of both.
 
But considering there's only 30$ difference betwen the two I would always prefer to pay that and have the possibility of boosting performance whenever needed.

That depends. If it's for home use, yes. If it's for home business use I would only recommend a slight OC.

If you're looking to not raise voltage you're better off with a 2400. Sure, you'll get around 4GHz on stock voltage on the 2500K, but you can reach 3.8GHz on the 2400.
