Bear in mind that for video processing you'll always want more processor power and by choosing a laptop you're immediately hobbling your processing power.

Between those two processors though, I'd assume that the i5's 8 cores will outpace the Ryzen 5's 6 cores in video processing.

- edit - thanks to @tamz_msc I noticed my mistake:

I scan-read the list and assumed that the highest figure was threads and the next up was the core number. I ought to read up more on P vs E cores.

Without benchmarks of the two laptops, it is hard to say. With a higher TDP, i5-1235U would perform better but mostly thin laptops have lower 15W TDP so the CPU is prevented from boosting higher. If you can ensure that the i5-1235U laptop has a 28W TDP for the CPU, that should be the better buy in terms of performance potential.

If performance is really important for you, try finding an H-series laptop. That would have a TDP of 35W to 45W and would give you the best performance.

For editing photos, using Photoshop and Lightroom, the 1235U would be faster in making edits using Photoshop but slower than the 5500U in Lightroom exports. 6 cores with SMT and higher clocks is better than 2 P + 8 E cores for multithreaded workloads like exporting photos. As for video editing, Premiere Pro is better able to utilize the iGPU on Intel, so if you are going to do a lot of GPU-accelerated video processing, the i5 will be better, but based on raw CPU power, both the Ryzen 5 5500U and the i5-1235U would likely be similar in Premiere Pro.

All of this assumes that the CPUs in question are allowed to perform at the maximum level according to their TDP specifications. With no idea about which laptops you are considering, and given that there can be a lot of variance in performance from model to model, it is really impossible to say which CPU would be better.

Hi
Thansk for all answer
I find 14 inch touch screen laptop with below config , would you please tell me is their 54 Wh Good ?

Core i5-1235U
Graphics Card Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics
Ram 8 GB, ( but i can upgrade it later )
Battery 4 Cell, 54 Wh, integrated
Power 65W Type-C EPEAT Adapter

so do you think Core i5-1235U can use maximum their power ?

It depends on the laptop manufacturer what max TDP they have defined in the BIOS. Usually, with 14 inch laptops, they want the battery to last longer so the TDP will be set to around 15-25W.

You can see from Intel's page that this CPU has base power of 15W. That's to be expected because 14 inch laptop doesn't have enough space for a bigger battery so they will downclock the CPU. It's possible when you are charging the laptop, it may use up to 55W power for short periods. Short because if it does this long, it will heat up quickly. As I said before, if you want something powerful, try finding a 15.6 inch laptop with i5-12500H.

You see this has three times the base power usage of the CPU in the 14 inch laptop. For brief periods, it will go up to 95W.

Thanks , I want to get this laptop gift for my friend , I know she some time do video editing - but she want this more for travel but she may need some time for do video or photo editing
I know she like 2 in 1 laptop style , so i looking for this style
and my budget is limited , so about $550 , i can find with this price is some store near myself

For example below laptop
Dell 7415 with ryzen 5500u
or
Dell 7420 Cpu : Core i5-1235U

So i dont know which one is better

** If there is no many difference about CPU then do you thing 5500u is better ?

Can you confirm the Dell 7420 laptop has following specs:

Dell 2in1 Inspiron 7420 Laptop, Intel i5-1235U, 8GB, 512GB, Win 11+MSO'21, NVIDIA MX550 (2GB GDDR6), 14.0" (35.56Cms) FHD Touch 250 nits

If so, it's the better buy. You get a discrete MX550 GPU with it which will help her in some video editing programs optimized for Nvidia GPUs.

Dell 7415 has some issues, like hinge breaks easily and power button not working every time. Better to avoid it.

Thanks for answer ,
But i find Dell 1420 - 2 in 1 with onboard GPU ( Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics )
Cpu : Core i5-1235U
Ram : 8GB
SSD :500
Graphics Card : Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics
So is 1420 with this Config Good ?

and about 7415 , really ? and their hinge is not strong ?

You mean 7420, right? With Xe graphics, I guess it's usable. I would prefer the 5500U coz it has better GPU but the hinge problem could be serious. Up to you if you want to risk it.

sorry i mistake my mean was 7420
so if the 7415 have hinge problem , so will not buy it

* Just one thing , so is 7420 have Good High hinge Quality ? Do you know about 7420 Quality ?
* I even find Dell 7425 with ryzen 5625U - i dont know about this
* and about LENOVO - I find this Flex 5 with CPU 5700U - but the problem is someone say their screen is very glossy and have reflection

Both are newer so hopefully Dell has fixed the quality control issues. Their displays are usually 250 nits in brightness and mediocre 45% NTSC coverage but if you are lucky and find them with 300 or 400 nits displays, they will have better and vibrant colors.

The Flex 5 is a decent 2 in 1. My son and in laws each have one. The screens are passable, but not great. The 5700u is a great processor for the money and will do well with whatever you throw at it. The fan on the lenovo can get a bit loud when you load ot down with a heavy task, but that's not uncommon. I'm not a fan of Lenovo's warranty service and tech support, but, I have also been disappointed by dell in the past.

Given your choices so far, I would choose the Flex 5 with the 5700u unless you have something that absolutely has to be fast and depends on the Intel iGPU for that speed.

The 1235u is not a bad laptop processor, but it really likes the higher power settings for good performance. Comparing the laptops will really come down to the power settings. The iGPU on the 5700u is faster than the 80EU Xe iHPU on the intel part, which should be around the one on the 5500u and the 5625u.

Ryzen 5500 have 6c/12threads which is better than i5 in multithreads applications and draw less power meaning long battery life. So, now you can decide.

Please also note that Ryzen 5500U is based on Zen2 and 5625U is Zen3.
5625U is about 15% faster on ST and about 10% faster on MT compared to 5500U.

Also due to Zen3 arch 5625U has better battery life (assuming same battery).

Intel Core i5-1235U has better ST than AMD 5625U (about 17% faster) but a little slower MT (about 5.6% slower).

Of course these numbers are very dependent on laptop cooling & TDP settings.

I am so far disappointed on Intel 12gen mobile reviews regarding battery life. It seems that battery life has regressed compared to Intel 11gen.
