This had me laugh a little, I admit. Computer Bottleneck, what's up with that? Didn't you previously call the i3 the "best future gaming CPU"?

It said "Best future gaming CPU for LGA 1156".

I still think that statement is true, but IMO Core 2 duo still seems plenty sufficient for the games I play.

If I had something older (like a socket 939 system) I would probably buy Core i3 this month.

These prices do seem pretty bad.

IMO the only reason why E8xxx processors were more expensive is because users are basically forced to buy them as there is no upgrade path (its cheaper to buy an overpriced CPU than upgrade your mobo+cpu+ram). There is no reason for these CPU's to be so expensive.
You have to buy a new mobo and are on the 1156 socket anyway. May as well buy an i5 750 if your going to spend over $150 (its like what, $170 at MC anyway?).

I was waiting for i3 to build a home server, but it seems like I will go with AMD now - I'll at least wait for the benchmarks though.

Bleh... dual core with HT? This may well fool people into thinking they have a proper quad core chip, hope that isnt intels game plan :/ half the cores, cut costs, stay competitive with AMD by using HT.

yeah they do seem way overpriced for what they are. I am sure MC will have a deal on these too though.

maybe you should post some specs like clock speeds and core count

These chips are targeted to the oc crowd besides the office market and continue the legacy of the Core 2 Duo, thats why their high prices. Intel ofcourse will make boatloads of money charging for their oc abilities with extremely low costs for them since they are at 32nm with presumably very good yields. Their 32nm waffers are very strong, but personally i would wait a couple of months after their introduction.

Intel takes the cake with a much better IGP, perfectly suited for almost all tasks besides gaming, Nvidia's IGPs take the boot from Intels platforms, case closed until the introduction of AMDs 1st gen Fusion APU, Llano.

One of the things that concerns me about 32nm is how physically small the cores are.

This could make the "contact patch" between the heat spreader and the cooler base more critical than ever before.

Maybe this is why companies like Thermalright have decided to included technologies like "Pressure Vault" on the Venomous X Tower cooler? (ie, making a massively tall/wide sink is meaningless if the heat can't be effectively transfered from the CPU cores to the heat pipes.)

I don't have a problem with current prices. I'm actually thinking about spending the 200+ dollars on the 660 and PRAYING the MC has the 670 for 219.99

All i do is game with some light photoshop so a high clocked dual core with HT is perfect for me. The 540 has been going to 4Ghz on stock voltage

at $200 I think a i7 750 can oc to 4ghz or so is quite a bit better even for games. not sure why they charge so much for dual core with HT.

We really need Intel to come down on their CPU prices. It's just crazy how much they're charging and some of their price points don't even make sense for the performance these CPUs are giving. But Intel owns the majority of the market so they can charge however much they think they can get away with charging, especially since AMD can't compete above $200.
