Classic bait and swtch - get a buzz going to stimulate traffic.

There's no way in hell they are going to have more than a few (if any at all) given that they are losing ~$150.00 per CPU they give away.

I used to do this when i worked at TCWO.com.

Gets you guys every time.

lulz

**EDIT**

Oh - and there's no issues with the Q9300, and they aren't "out of production". Major disties have excellent stock.

It's not a bait and switch...it's called clearance. In fact the Q9300 entry won't even appear in a search for your locale if it's not in stock. Someone had the page bookmarked and dug it up again.

"Clearance" in a current processor, that's readily available everywhere else, at a ~$150.00 loss per CPU.

I take it you aren't a business major, eh?

Ok. A more PC way to say it is "loss leader". Happy now?

Didn't they stop making the Q9300? I thought the Q9400 replaced it a while back. Newegg's been out of stock of the Q9300 for some time now.

No, there's plenty of Q9300's in stock at the distributor level. not sure why the 'egg chooses not to carry it. And there's no EOL announced on it.

There's over 100 resellers listing them for sale on Google shopping.

Doesn't negate the fact that MC is selling very small amounts of Intel processors WAY below cost as a loss leader, to get traffic in their stores.

And I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I just want people to see what they are doing,, and realize that when they have these huge blowouts, it's all marketing and PR, nothing else.

You sure it hasn't been EOL'd? I just searched a few online retailers that came to mind (Newegg, Tigerdirect, NCIX, Frys), and at every one of them, the Q9400 is cheaper than the Q9300. Actually, I thought the Q9300 was EOL'd right when the Q9400 was released (as it was released at the same price point the 9300 was, if memory serves me right).

I remember seeing the forum thread for the Q8200 when it was posted on Slickdeals, and quite a few people successfully bought the chip at the $99 price. They had a reasonable amount in stock, as far as I remember.

Who cares as long as you can buy the product?

In this case, as has been posted many times already, its been out of stock for a long time

and they are not marketing this, I knew about it from someone else's post from a while back. Been refreshing that page since then. The $99 Q8200 was marketed. They sent out emails to all their addresses on file. They had many in stock.

For what it's worth, if there's a lesson here from all the above posts, it is simply when you buy one of microcenter's firesale price cpu's, exercise some restraint and don't buy a video card, etc for $20-30 higher than you can find online.

I bought a q8200 to build an htpc that I won't need for at least a few weeks (when I move), and almost pulled the trigger on a $60 radeon 4350. I also noticed 3 of the 5 people in line in front of me had bought q8200's, as well as cases, motherboards, $35 dvd-rw drives, etc.

They have "OK" prices on cases and mobos, nothing special. I was actually there last night picking up some S-FLEX fans and the sales person was perfectly willing to pricematch everything but a WD Caviar Black HDD because the competitor's offer was OEM and they only sell retail versions of that drive.

As well, Micro Center is not a bad source for OEM ODDs. They sell the Samsung 22x DVD burners for $25, which is on par with NewEgg.

I picked this up a few months back for 180 at MicroCenter and it was a steal back then at that price. Great CPU and great overclocker. No regrets.

Microcenter is always cheap and likes to have customer lines go a mile long. Better go in during the middle of the day during midweek or wait half hour on the line to an hour on their busy days.

nope - not EOL.

Shhhh! There's a price drop coming 04/19 on certain intel processors, and the Q9300 is one of them. That's why many large etailers aren't showing stock. They aren't proce protected, so they reduce stock in anticipation of a pending intel price shift.

4/19 price drop:
Q9300 BX80580Q9300 ($49.00)
Q9550S BX80569Q9550S ($49.00)
Q9400S BX80580Q9400S ($49.00)
Q8200S BX80580Q8200S ($22.00)
Xeon X3330 BX80580X3330 ($8.00)
Xeon X3320 BX80580X3320 ($49.00)
Xeon L3360 BX80569L3360 ($50.00)
Tray Q9300 EU80580PJ0606M ($49.00)
Tray Xeon X3330 AT80580KJ0676M ($8.00)
Tray Xeon X3320 EU80580KJ0606M ($49.00)

Those drops have to be wholesale prices, right? Those aren't the prices we are going to see on the shelves.

Correct. Disty price drops. But, they should drop about the same at retail too.

That's the amount of the drop, not the cost of the chip, right? Otherwise at $50 I'm gonna be buying about $500 worth of the 9550S. :D

We need an update if this goes in stock like the 8200 did before the deal is over D:
