Core 2 E6600 temp...again

Hi all, first post so go easy on me. :)

My question is, is idle of 36C too high for my E6600 or do I need to revisit my cooling methods ?

I've had my E6600 for about 2 weeks. Initial temps were idle 42 and load 50 with the stock HS. It was a real pain to install and at first it did not click properly and then when I tried reinstalling it, I broke one of its platic pins (blessing in disguise I think).

Anyway, I then went and bought an Arctic Freezer 7, which installed much easier (even though it was the same fitting design).

E6600 is overclocked to 2.7Ghz and I now have idle 36 and load 39.

BTW my room is at normal room temps (don't know exact temp), and case has 5 fans installed.

Thanks

I have my E6600 OC'd to 366FSB at 1.475 Vcore. At 19 ambient it remains at 27-28 at idle and 35-37 during a torture test. I've never seen it exceed to 30's. HSF is a Scythe Infinity.

@Henny, my load temp does not exceed the 30's, but my idle temp is higher than yours.

But is it something I should just accept and not worry about or should I work on getting it lower ?

Well, I don't have an E6600, but I do have an E6300 running at 2.74 GHz. I think your temps are fine. My E6300 idles at ~32.0C and loads around 44.0C (sometimes 45.0C). I'm using a Zalman 9500. I'm impressed with the low load temps you guys are showing with the Arctic Freezer 7 and Scythe Infinity -- I guess I knew they were better heatsinks than the Zalman ;-)... or maybe my installation method just sucked!

Henny: vCore of 1.475? Wow! What is the practical upper limit, here? I've heard 1.55v bantered about, but I'm impressed that your running so "high" and still keeping the temps low. Perhaps there is a future for me above 391 FSB!

Thanks for the reply platbr and advice.

I guess my load temp is ok then and I should leave it as is and now start concentrating on getting a better OC to 3GHz+ maybe.

Yes I have also been impressed by the Arctic Freezer pro 7, when my stock HC broke on the weekend I had to get hold of another HC quick and mail order would have taken a few days, so this was the only HC available which had had some decent reviews. Well impressed.

I am also quite impressed with Asrock(Conroe XFire ESATA2), I know its not the best but its cheap and does the job, and when better and cheaper boards are released I can upgrade.
