kind of got into a pissing contest with a girl who wants to buy a dirty prebuilt HP computer... (i say a build i choose would definitely have a quality improvement over the HP) i definitely can't match price, but i can possibly come within ~$100...

anywho, long story short, i'm getting a bit irked trying to figure out what memory i can safely buy and have it stable as ******. i'm not an OCer, she's not an OCer, i just want a computer that's stable as hell (putting the burden on her ability to keep the system clean) .. kind of like my Asus KT333 with several burst caps, still running rock solid since the day i built it in high school.. but i digress.

could someone start compiling good brands of memory to go with each speed of C2D kind of like the Overclockers guide to C2D memory? or is there such a thing out there on the internets?

edit: i'm looking for 2x1GB, but i'm sure 2x512MB wouldn't hurt...

also, i wouldn't mind organizing such a thread, but i have no means to myself (hence why i'm asking) nor any friends with one...

Asus has some pretty obscure sounding stuff for their DDR2-667 and 533 memory list.... Kingston, Cimonda, Hynix, Elpida, Apacer, Kingmax ... i haven't really heard of Kingston or Hynix on many peoples' "trusted memory" list since the days of DDR266/333 when you could buy almost any memory brand... should i just look for those on Asus's List if i go with Asus?

Hynix and Elpida get rebranded, which is probably why you hadn't heard of them. AFAIK, elpida becomes mostly G. Skill stuff, but you're right as far as hynix goes, i havn't heard much from them in a while. Yoxxy can give you all the details.
