It's so wonderfully fast. I dumped my girlfriend today because I have a new love.

With my setup below, at the following settings:

1680x1050, 2xAA, Adaptive AA (perf), HDR, all quality settings high, tons of visual mods including 2048x2048 textures, natural environments, illumination within, for Oblivion, I am getting:

Outdoors: averages around 30fps, often hits 40s, sometimes falls to the 25s. (This is roughly a 10fps increase from my previous 4400+ @ 2.6 w/ 2gb!!)

Towns: 60fps (up from about 40)

Indoors: never payed attention, high enough

This is flatly incredible. And btw, using it in daily tasks it is definitely faster. I am extremely pleased :)

If it doesn't come soon, it definitely will make me cry. :(

Looking forward to running games on this rig for the first time though - should be fun!

Nah, missed most of the forum uproar until it had mostly become a moot point. Getting it from ISORM.com, should be here soon.

Actually since I posted my first reply in this thread isorm sent me an email indicating that it's being processed. So the salesguy probably wasn't BSing when he said that it would likely ship out today, in time to make it for a weekend build session.

You noticed a difference in responsiveness over an OC'd 4400+?
Are you sure that's not simply the result of a fresh XP install?

Absolutely. It's subtle in some places, not so much in others. It's not the XP install, I typically reformat about every 2 months anyway. I pay attention to such things but there is a palpable difference. Think about it though; in applications an e6600 is typically faster than a 3-3.1ghz A64M2. That's 30% faster per clock. So take my e6600 at just under 3.5ghz and add 30% to that. That's 4.55ghz. Now if the idea that OCing the FSB gives another performance increase, say, even 3-5% overall, well, you have a processor that is getting nice and cozy with an AMD @ 5ghz.

Now, generally speaking I'm limited in some areas by my Raptors, but there is still a difference in snappiness without question, and I like it :D

I didn't really dump my GF. (don't have one of course), but I did spend most of the first part of today leaning towards rescheduling a date (with a girl) I have on Tuesday so I could spend more time playing with this before school starts. After going to the gym however and seeing some womens, I have decided against canceling.

Argh, I have no idea when my 6600 is coming in. Monarch is the slowest retailer on the planet. I ordered some memory 2 weeks ago which was IN STOCK and it still hasn't shipped either. (Seperate order!)

You lucky pukes!

It definitely is more than just a fresh install of XP. The new P-D 940's at work.. with 512mb of memory and SATA hard drives (plenty of power for what they're going to be running) don't feel as snappy. My setup boots faster, is more responsive for everyday stuff, and is running the Vista transformation pack.

Isorm is a good (albeit small) company- they get theor C2D from the company I work for. :)

There's a definite "snappiness" difference, although I suspect we're just being greedy :D My overclocked 4400+ was awful "snappy" too. Where I really SEE the difference is video encoding. A huge difference. And I'm loving it :D

Hurrah, it comes in friday!

About time. Tired of seeing all the high-priced goodies sitting around the house instead of in a computer.

So can we say that Conroe lives up to the Hype?

I see a lot of people complaining about the benches mostly because after seeing the astonishing bench results, the only thing "these people" have to fall back on is "how's it do in REAL world?"... but I guess this thread answers that :p.
Good to see satisfied users, Intel finally delivers!!!!!!!

One question for OP. were you using the same video card with your AMD system?
