Core 2 Duo E8400 $120 @ Micro Center B&M

Good deal, even beats the deal i got 4 months ago for a E8400 at newegg for 159.99 x Paypal 20% cashback deal.

This is the fastest Dual core I would consider buying, might as well go triple or quad if your gonna spend over $150.00 on a CPU.

Actually because newegg does not charge me sales tax and Microcenter does charge me sales tax and shipping , the newegg deal was slightly less money overall.

Damn, I tried everything - called the main distro and the local store, they would not budge on "pickup in store only" - which is 120mi roundtrip for me.
Shows 18 in stock at that store, I really dont get it.
They will not give an inch on this.
Bleh.

not to be rude but what makes you think you're special enough for them to make an exception for you?

Hate not living in a state with Microcenter, hate being broke, hate not really needing one of these

Jackoffs like you is why I quit posting in all other forums here long ago save for some occasional Hot Deals topics.

For real, that was a true asshat comment. If you wanna diss someone here, you may as well save a tree and not even post.

you haven't answered the question.
if they wanted to make this available to everyone, they wouldn't have made it in-store only.
why should they make an exception for you?

I am completely torn now about whether to hold out for another Newegg Biostar790/Phenom 720 combo, or to go with this and a good gaming mobo on Newegg. This comes out to roughly $129 after tax. I wish Microcenter also offered the combo deals. Their mobos seem so overpriced.

No reason not to get a quad at this point IMO. Duals are a waste of money.

Have something to back that up?

The software has not caught up with the hardware at this point. Unless you need a quad for something specific, it is useless for now.

looks like cinbench and POV are the only places where the quad really shines.

When you compare them by clock speed the Quad seems to win, I can't decide if I should go for the E8400 or the Q9650. The savings on the E8400 is real nice but I do have a decent tax return comming soon.

Q8200 at MC

what do you mean by compare?
comparison= one is quad, the other is dual. one is 139, the other is 119, one is clocked a 3ghz other at 2.33., etc

if you want benchmarks go to tomshardware cpu charts and have a good day.
