Almost made me sad about my newly purchased e4500...Almost...

I am upgrading to quad very soon, so I feel a little better now...

from xbit:

"Take note that the CPUZ utility reports a core voltage of 1.344V. It?s not an error. The screenshot was taken under load (Prime95 utility), so you see the Vdroop effect here.

Unfortunately, we couldn?t conquer the 4.0GHz peak after increasing the core voltage to 1.4V (in BIOS Setup). It means that the Core 2 Duo E7200 is somewhat worse at overclocking than the Core 2 Duo E8000 which can usually speed up above 4GHz easily.

Well, we did make our Core 2 Duo E7200 stable at 4.0GHz but we had to increase the core voltage to 1.5V for that.

We have noted in our previous reviews that Wolfdale series CPUs responds with increased overclockability to an increase in the core voltage. The Core 2 Duo E7200 is not an exception. Increasing the voltage more you can achieve even higher CPU clock rates. Just don?t forget about proper cooling.

As for performance of the overclocked Core 2 Duo E7200, it is about 10% slower than the same-frequency Wolfdale with a 6MB cache in games and about 5% slower in other applications."

This is a fantastic option for those who can't afford the E8400/E8500.

9.5x multi is very nice.

I'm wondering if the P965 chipset supports half multis? I'm currently running an E4400 on my P5B Deluxe, the latest BIOS supports 45nm chips so this chip would make a nice upgrade in my situation. I'm assuming it supports 1/2 multis, but I want to be absolutely sure.

$100 even count me in, at stock.
above that, meh.
I certainly wouldn't pay $133 to $155 for it, hell, the Q6600 has dipped as low as $180 already.

I agree. At $100 its a no-brainer but not at ~130. Id pony up the extra for the e8400 which will probably be ~180 when this chip hits.

$136 for E7200 or $180 for E8400 shipped @ microcenter for me. I cant' decide. Is the 10% increase really worth the $44 when the only game I play is WoW, and I'm not even playing that right now.

Or if you have a Fry's near you, you can get a E7200 and a MSI P43 Neo3-F motherboard for $220 (or a E7200 + ECS mobo you can sell later for $30 or so for $120). I believe you can overclock that E7200 pretty well if you want to.

Get the E7200, run it at 333 FSB for 3.1GHz if you don't want to overclock much. It can do that on stock voltage. That would be good enough for WoW. If you get a good heatsink, almost all E7200s overclock to 3.8GHz easily on about 1.3v, and that would be good enough for any game.

microcenter e8400 deal is $159 + ship. Is your shipping $21.00? Or do you have to pay tax as well?

As nice as it is that they did 6mb vs 3mb numbers, they did them in CPU limited situations (low res etc).
While that's good for telling us worst case scenario, it would be nice to see how much difference there is in actual real game situations where the CPU is less of a limiting factor and the graphics card comes into play.
Obviously knowing worst case is good though, as it means that the difference will pretty much never be that big as long as you pair your CPU with a suitable graphics card.
