Core 2 Duo E6300 or Pentium D 945?

How could you NOT get a core 2 duo? They're like 200 bucks dude.. if you can't ante up for that then maybe you deserve to stay with a pentium D, which by the is the grade it gets for efficiency and performance.
 
Why does everyone act like you NEED a Core 2 Duo for good gaming performance? I'd rather have a good GPU and a moderate CPU than a great CPU and a moderate GPU. You could have a 6600 over-clocked to 4 flat and you'll still get crappy frame-rates and visual quality with a 7 series card versus an 8 series.

Then theres people who are always posts about how their C2D are OCed at 3ghz and over. Well i dont think many do OC because it voids their warranty, not to mention those kind of comparisons are useless as each chip will have a different OC level, not to mention a completely different system (mobo/memory etc) that can affect performance.

If your looking for gaming, its definately a wise idea to grab a new shiny graphics card. For general productivity/multitasking, grabbing a faster CPU is the way to go.

Anyway, these PDs are cheap in comparison. You can grab them for less then 100 dollars, so i dont see whats so bad about the CPUs given that theyre really cheap.

Some of us don't mind getting a shiny new graphics card (a la the 8800 GTX) AND a nice new C2D. And if that means getting a new mobo to make it all run faster, put that on the list too. I think the issue here is that some of us just like to build new PCs. 🙂
