Hi I am new to the forums, I have been reading for some time but have yet to post. I am currently in the market to upgrade my PC. I have a A64 3000 right now and am looking at either going Core 2 duo or maybe AMD X2 dpending on what is the better overall setup. I think I have seen just about every benchmark there is on the internet in terms of comparison results between the two. But as far as real world comparisons I had yet to see anything real until I saw the Photoshop test thread. Needless to say the results seem farily interesting in that some of the larger advantages that C2D stuff had over AMD X2 stuff in the benchmarks does not seem as clear in the photoshop test. I understand that there are a lot of other things that photoshop does and certain things make work better or worse depending on the setup but I wondered if possible if a test could be setup for some type of video encoding.
I do some video encoding on my machine and I was interested in what kind of real world results a test would show. I use various things like DVD decyrpter and DVD ripper as well as DVD shrink and I wondered if any of those programs would be easy to setup a test for everbody with. I don't have a ton of experience setting something like this up as far as what sample file to use or what program to set it up with as related to what will provide the best comparison. I would be happy to do the leg work in setting it up but I thought maybe getting some advice would be better first. Or if this is super easy for someone to set up by all means post it up and lets give it a try.
Any ideas or thoughts?
Thanks for any help
